Erinmore or Blue Note

Looking at a couple blends that are Virginia but with a sweet and fruity flavor. I cannot stand the Sutliff or Lane casing / topping that I consider a medicinal fake flavor. But I do enjoy the berry flavor of EGR.

Anyone have experience with either of these?

Yup, they aren’t comparable at all. Blue Note is a true aromatic while the current production of Erinmore is ever so lightly flavored (I never had the old stuff). I don’t really like Erinmore flake but I’m a sucker for most blends DT makes, especially blue note.

Erinmore used to not be a Virginia, mostly burley, strong burley at that. I remember it making me set down of the side of the road when I first smoked it while walking the dogs years ago. Now... who knows. It doesn't smell or taste anything like it used to. Not even close.

I also see that 4th Generation 1982 might be an option. Anyone have experience with it? Looking for natural tobacco with a mild berry note similar to Peterson University Flake. I like UF’s plum flavor but looking for another flavor such as berry or citrus flavor.

Rattray's Wallace Flake is closer to the original recipe of University Flake. It would fall into your category.

I actually like Erinmore because it's the only "aromatic" that I enjoy consistently.

But I've never had the old version, so I have no basis for comparison. But I really enjoy it. The topping is very light and the tobaccos are good quality.

I've never had Blue Note, so I have no insights on that blend.

same here. And Erinmore is delightful and can best be described as Erinmore.

I like 1982 as it has a nice vanilla/blackberry taste. More vanilla it seems to me.

When I was first coming here, it still had that urinal cake aroma when you popped a tin. I am not 100% sure, but I think STG was still making the original recipe. It changed sometime around 2017, that was when the label changed a bit too. The logo got smaller and higher up on the label. I still have some 2015 that are good. Not many, but enough for special occasions.

Never had blue note but the one bowl of erinmore I had kinda reminded me juicy fruit gum.

Samuel Gawith Firedance Flake has a blackberry topping but uses their Best Brown as a base so it's excellent virginia tobacco.

It's easily my favorite aromatic. The stuff I have is 3 years old and the topping has faded some, but that suits me fine as I can taste more of the wonderful virginia.

I’ve got some from around 2005 or 2006, and it packs a whallop. It’s like pulling on a weighted blanket of nicotine. I should go dig that jar out!
