English Aromatic/Aro English Suggestions?

Hearth & Home's "Fusilier's Ration."
Russ doesn't say what the topping is, but I'd swear that bourbon is at least part of it.
To me, it's slightly reminiscent of Frog Morton's Cellar.

To my taste, it should not be classified with the modern iteration of Bengal Slices at all, even though it was an earlier attempt at matching the old Bengal Slices. Fusilier's Ration is lighter, sweeter, less tangy, and more bourbony.

I'm a Boswell's Northwoods guy, too, and I found Fusilier's to fit the type.

P.S. Just for Him's "Whiskey Biscuit Gravy" is sometimes mentioned as a delicious member of this category, but I myself cannot speak to that as I haven't yet tried it. I happen to know that my wife is jarring a few ounces of it for me for Christmas, but till then that's a second-hand recommendation.

Also, Samuel Gawith includes a light but noticeable amount of Latakia in their Navy Flake (rum topped VA), so perhaps that qualifies, as well.

It's not classified as either an Aro or an English, but it may tick the pertinent boxes for all intents and purposes. The rum is Aro and the Latakia in the VA is English (in the popular American use of the term).

However, the rum is applied with an extremely light hand, and the mixture isn't as sweet as these others we're talking about, so it may or may not be what you're looking for.

Pick up a tin of Eastfarthing by Sutliff. It’s about the only aro english style blend I keep around. Really good stuff.

The "hint of Latakia" in Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend gives it that mild, nicely nuanced, English Aromatic experience that many on this Forum enjoy, including tobacco maven, JimInks, who has championed this blend. I've been smoking it since the late 1960s, and it is one of the very few aromatics in my rotation.

Bon’s choc flake is not an English! The Latakia is barely noticeable to me.

HU Port Latakia is an English with a hint of vanilla.

I agree about Bald Headed Teacher although Im not sure I would classify it as an English , the latakia is pretty condimental like Bobs Chocolate Flake

My two favorite crossover blends would be Britts Balkan (love the vanilla topping) and Voodoo Queen.

You must smoke latakia regularly. As a non latakia smoker i taste in there easily.

Actually I don’t, I am sitting on about a pound of various Lat blends and smoke a bowl of them about once a month, all the rest of my smoking is VaPers and Virginias. Fell out of love for Lat hard about a year ago now, to the point where most taste more or less the same to me, and while I do enjoy them once a month I feel that if I didn’t have any in my cellar I wouldn’t really miss Lat.
I can sense the Lat in Bob’s, but barely, I think it works well as seasoning in that blend.

I have quite a bit of Kramer's blend for Cary Grant stashed. Haven't smoked it for a year or so but it was always a favorite of mine. I really wanted to like Lane HGL, but I smoked one bowl of it and hated it so much that I threw away the rest of the 1 oz bag of it I had.

Only aromatic English I’ve ever tried was some bulk I picked up recently in hopes SWMBO wouldn’t make that face at smoke in the house. It tasted like not much of anything other than false hope, and I was about to give up on the idea entirely. However you gents have given me much to ponder.

Might start with some BF, we all wanna be pirates… and it may be the right intro to English blends for my son (the way FM was for me).

If I didn't know there was latakia in Bob's, I would swear it had none in it, Presbyterian is a lat bomb. I can't taste anything but latakia in Presbyterian.

I'm not saying it's better or worse than the many great recommendations above, just that it's the one I've settled on and enjoy quite a bit.

I'm not saying it's better or worse than the many great recommendations above, just that it's the one I've settled on and enjoy quite a bit.

This sounds like a great recommendation! I’ll give this a shot and see how it goes. I haven't tried Luxury English but I’m a big fan of English Oriental Supreme.
