I feel like with the current situation, a thread like this could have some merit. Mods feel free to move/combine but I feel as multiple retailers will be mentioned, this is the spot and haven't been able to find a similar type of thread. I guess we'll see how much traction it gets and that, along with current supplies, will determine its lifespan.

Basically if there's a tobacco you know is being discontinued or is hard to find (Esoterica, etc.) and you're lucky enough to stumble across some in the world wild web, kindly post your newsflash here after you've secured your own personal hoarde to maybe help out some fellow forum members before the door closes.

I'll start off:
1/20/25 Restock of both tins and pound boxes of the most popular HH blends at SmokingPipes last night. Includes Old Dark Fired, Pure Virginia, and Latakia Flake

I got an extra pound of both PV and LF this weekend, so I have nothing additional to add myself.

I can't help but visualize a harmonic convergence of the final Sutliff shipment coinciding with a blowout IPSD sale...

True but I think only members get alerts right? Idk I feel like it's all public information just that this might give members a leg up once in awhile.. guess we'll see how it goes based on how many people decide to add to it though. Hopefully any lurkers sign up if they get value from it otherwise we're all just going off disparate restock notifications and the real scalpers already have their method locked in I would think. If people wanna keep their little secrets though I can't put a sword to their heads lol

Yep, not much in it, but a very nice thought. IMO,folks here pretty much know where/how to source their blends - not really interested in "educating" the vast, anonymous web. Odds are way more likely you may end up with someone here being aced out of a particular blend. Plenty of larger retailers let you sign up for alerts in some form (locating something at SP isn't really a scoop) and if someone had just located "x" in some small shop somewhere, I'd feel badly about screwing some regular, local or otherwise, supporter of the shop by letting the world know "x" was there.

In the same vein, had an out of the blue solicitation from a zero post person who joined some time back just to inquire whether I wanted to sell a particular pipe (yes, hard to find) and guessing the person joined to send messages to some others as well after searching the site. May have been legit, may have been a perceived profit opportunity, may have been the nicest person in the world, who knows but no way to tell and didn't see a point in a conversation with a complete stranger with no context on the forums. I thought it would be mean to tell "him" I actually had two, one of which is unsmoked, lol, and deleting and ignoring seemed the safest bet in the end, which was about 30 seconds after the beginning.

When I find something rare and in stock, I send an email out to friends (15 - 20), many of whom are members of this forum. As @jaingorenard suggests above, this is a very anonymous public-facing forum and an unregistered lurker from halfway across the globe is going to make off with rare and hard-to-find tobacco at the first opportunity.

If that long. There is an army of unregistered lurkers that watch this forum.

Some of us have had some fun with that in the past, recommending truly awful tobaccos and faking a glowing campaign around them to sucker punch some of the ghosts.

I always try to be as gracious as possible... especially by being genuine. Like not veiling insults as praise. And keeping all my sarcasm contained to my humour

That was my original thought as well
Since it's apparently stirred a huge controversy though I'll stay out of it a few weeks and allow others to make their minds up on if it deserves to live or not lol
