Whoooooooo!
I get it now. Half way through my first bowl. It may lack distinction in the tin note (to me, as usual with tin notes) but it sure ain't bashful under the flame!
I don't know WHAT to think of this. I don't HATE it, but I sure won't be craving it with my first cup o joe, either.
I like unique things and this qualifies. I'll keep it next to that one tin of aromatic that I have for those "I don't know what I want" moments.
Thankfully, my impression is all floral and no soap or urinal cake, as others have found. I can work with it, on a limited basis.
This cob does have a new permanent designation, however.....

Okay, I take it back.
The soap likes to wait for the second half.... :puffpipe:
Still tolerable. I suspect 3 relights and cadence interruption (and my usual lack of enough dry time) may be responsible.

Hyde Park is not generally considered to be a 'Lakeland blend' despite its origins. It is a Virginia/Burley blend with hints of maple and rum.
That's all well and good to reference the blend description and you can call it what you'd like. Regardless, it has the scent on it.

I had a love affair with Lakeland tobaccos and while I still enjoy them I view it more as a journey that lead me to Condor. Just like Jay said, it is not a Lakeland tobacco but often confused for one because it does have a floral topping but when you get to know both you will start to understand the difference. The only way I can describe it is Condor has a very complex top dressing that tastes floral but not soapy or perfumed (all though some would argue against this). The Lakeland scented tobaccos taste more like perfume than a singular floral note (if that makes sense?).
I have come to love tobaccos with florals like:

Condor, St. Bruno, Kendal Cream, Velvan Plug, Hadde's Best Irish, Daddy Gefftl and Erinmore Flake
Lakeland's that have more of a perfume vibe are:

Ennerdale Flake, Kendal Flake, Grassmere Flake, Brown Flake/Dark Flake Scented, Bosun/Coniston Cut Plug and almost everything from GH&Co.
Most people lump 1792 Flake into this category but I do not get anything remotely Perfumey or soapy with it. I get a nice Tonquin flavor that is more like a complex vanilla than a floral topping but if you want to get technical than even Full Virginia Flake is a Lakeland Tobacco. When I think of a Lakeland blend, I think of a perfumed blend and I think that is what most people are referring to when they call a blend a Lakeland. It can get quite confusing.
I think a lot of American's get confused when they taste something like rose in a tobacco and automatically equate it to tasting like soap or perfume but to me the Lakeland scented baccies do taste exactly like soap and perfume.
any way, just my two cents.

I actually tried a sample of Condor and didn't loath it like I have Lakelands. There is a difference, as you're describing, and I could see myself smoking it occasionally.

I don't have experience with Lakeland aromatic blends. I tend to accept the advice that the Lakeland aromatics impart a ghost that lasts a long long time, or permanently. Soapy-floral doesn't sound enticing to me, but for some, it's the essence of pipe smoking. I'd guess it's just important to know what you're sampling. A designated cob is always a way to do Lakelands without remorse.

Well, now you all have sent me down the shadowy road to Soap-ville.
I stopped at my B&M today for a smoke and chat.
Bantered my way across the shelves, looking for an unexplored niche.
The Lakeland topic eventually emerged and my local guy foisted a tin of Hyde Park upon me.
"Made Exclusively for Peterson of Dublin", but by whom? I don't know...
B&M dude says it's a "nice" intro to Lakelands, although the tin says nothing of it.
Gonna put some in the cob shortly. Meanwhile, if familiar, please give your opinion.
You don't happen to live in Austin, TX do you? The guy that works at Pipe World said the same thing to me. Although it may be there, I don't taste any of the GH&Co trademark florals on Hyde Park but I think I'm just used to them as I don't taste them in Bob's Chocolate Flake or Best Brown #2 anymore either.

Yes, hawky454, I do live in Austin and it was Kyle at Pipe World.
I will try to hit Pipe Club night there for the first time on 7/27.
Maybe we will meet some day.

Quite right Hawky, me neither. I think some folks see who makes it and automatically associate it with floral scents. It's all in the mind, it is totally unscented as many will attest to.

Jay.

Was wondering about Hyde Park. Have a tin but have not gotten around to opening it yet. Do have some Bob Choc Flake and I didn't really notice much of a floral with it. There was something there but it was very very light

I'll just quote JimInks review here, if I may. It's scented. End of argument.
The maple and rum toppings are mild supporting players, and compete for attention with a mild soapy, floral Lakeland scent.
