So on my antique store browsing session today. I came across this. It still smells pretty good but I'm sure it's pretty dry. I did not remove any of the flakes yet but being a full tin and sliced I'm wondering if I should try to rehydrate it? I couldn't pass it up at $6.00.....worth a try or no? Anyone guess at an age also?

Somewhere on the tax stamp it says "series 123" and that will help you identify the date.

I'd buy it. I have several and it is the best Burley hands down.

Yeah not much left of the tax stamp unfortunately. That's what I figured too on rehydration. I figured I'd remove it all and put it in a small mason jar with a Boveda and wait and wait and wait some more ?

Looks great. Was the tin still sealed? If it was, I'd try a flake now. That stuff is legendary.

The tins were all "sealed" with cellophane which means there isn't a surviving tin of this stuff that isn't dry.

Good news is it rehydrates into something glorious.

@Ebarber I'd rehydrate using secondary Tupperware containers rather than Boveda packs. I know the packs stabilize humidity but you're going for full on restoration hydration.

Congratulations on the find. I envy you. That should be a grand and glorious smoke. My guess is that it should smoke fairly well as is, but re-hydrating might bring out some more flavors.

I wouldn't buy it because I hate burley but if I was goin to hydrate I would but the tin in a quart jar and put Boveda pack in it. If the tobacco can be removed from the tin without turning to dust I would remove it otherwise leave the tin open. Af two weeks check on it. If it's moisture is acceptable to you then smoke it if not leave it in the container,

I liked the results from a terracotta coin more than a boveda pack FYI, I feel like it did a more thorough job.

I have had a similar find with the same tobacco. Rehydrate and it will blow your socks off. So tasty.

I saw a pile of those at the Chicago Pipe Show in 2015. They were a lot more money than $6 and they still had their cellophane wrappers on them. To this day I wish I had purchased a couple of them.

No just raised ridges. I don't know the purpose of them. I wondered myself why they did that. I'm guessing it's probably from the 30's or 40's judging from other old empty tins I have come across.
