I have been experimenting with different tobaccos for the purpose of trying to find an early morning smoke, something that would pair well with coffee. Any suggestions?

gnatjulio - Thank you for the suggestion, I have smoked and enjoyed Dunhill's London Mixture but not the Early Morning, I will give it a try.

Thank you gentlemen, I will search out the tobacco's you mentioned. It is hard to know what works at what time of the day, or even if 'time of day' has any meaning. I have found though, that in the morning I gravitate towards a milder tobacco.
tbradsim1 - It would seem counter-intuitive to use a mix named Nightcap to start the day with, but I will give it a try. Perhaps I've been getting too caught up in the names or titles that the various companies use to distinguish their products.

On my rare days off, I like to start the day with a pot of good strong Columbian coffee and a bowl of Dunhill EMP (to start with at least) and then, as I drink the coffee, choose other blends to smoke. Anything that catches my fancy after that first bowl of EMP is fair game.

+1 for Balkan Sasieni as a first smoke of the day, it's also good for the rest of the day. So are Balkan Supreme, SPC Plum Pudding, or SG Commonwealth.
If I'm not working or have anything planned, I usually start the day with SG Grousemoor though :puffy:
If you really want to go back to bed, try some SG 1792

I smoke Nording's hunter blend Labrador in the mornings with my coffee. I like to add a touch of hazelnut syrup to my coffee and I find that Labrador's nutty hazelnut aroma and flavor goes great with it. There is also a hint of "figiness" to the blend. Actually I like it all day, but it is special with my coffee.

Dunhill EMP, MB's ODF, Solani's ABF, Peterson's Irish and UF, Scott's BB, Dunhill Flake are all great "GET UP" and start the day blends

Burley with coffee, it used to be Kentucky Club, but since I've tried Solani 656 it has been my go to Burley. 8 O'Clock Columbian is my coffee of choice.

Thanks again to the posters. After reading your posts this morning, I have displayed a degree of TAD that would likely amuse you more experienced smokers (or make you proud, I am not sure which).
It would seem that a majority seem to favor the Dunhill EMP, so that is a clear 'must try', I made a list of the other suggestions and purchased through some of the forum sponsors enough of a variety to keep me busy for a while. Thus far, the only blend that I have tried, which is billed as an early morning variety, is the Villiger 1888 Early Day. I am not sure yet how I feel about this tobacco and look forward to comparing it to the suggestions located here on this forum.

Guess I'm one of the few who loves kicking off the new day with a steaming cup of Espresso Misto and a good pipe full of a Virginia tobacco - most days either Best Brown from Sam Gawith or Marling Flake from Rattray.

Missed this earlier.

My typical morning smoke for quite a while has been MacBaren H&H Vintage Syrian, with an occasional venture into their Solent Blend. I recently smoked some McCranie's Highland Mixture from the box pass, and found that to be something that would be a good first pipe of the day as well. I plan on picking some up in the not so distant future.
