Thanks! I’m pretty happy with the way this one came out. I have a Savinelli millennium pipe that I topped and ended up chamfering, mostly because the bowl seemed a bit out of round and the rim blackening was extensive and the chamfer worked well. The one you shared looks great!

Decided to go over the Killarney with micro mesh then finished with Paragon wax. Color is more even now. Spent a little more time on the rim, too, and was able to get more of the blackening off. Looks like I didn’t take a picture of a rim before the initial cleaning but I put a profile “before” pic below.

That looks really nice. I like the new color, and you can see the grain better.

There have been pipes that I’ve topped where the top looked stark in its shape afterwards or too sharp on its edges. You might consider rounding the chamber edge or even giving it a 45 degree slant like this.

I often do this for a charred rim. Works pretty well.

I keep Black, Oxblood, Yellow and Tan on hand. A little mixing or using one colour as a base layer helps get you to the finish that you're after.
