I have had a bad Peterson, but I also have a dozen and a half that are good-to-excellent smokers. Even if Peterson pipes didn't offer unique features, like the p-lip or the System pipe, I am drawn to Peterson due to their timeless shapes, which is the very same thing that draws me to Dunhill.

+1 but for me the P Lip and System are the key historical appeal. And I have had a bad one as well but I don't find the need to disparage the whole brand. I reserve that for bloodsucking tobacco profiteers.

Wise words Craig. That is my perspective as well and also why I'm attracted to both, though do not own any Dunhills. Would if I could afford them though.

Okay, how about this. $500-$600 is nothing for me to pay for a pipe.
So you got that raise? :)

My first emoji. I feel so dirty.

As for my part in this thread... it was a caricature post - followed by a big disclaimer because the internet is very uptight - and it wasn't meant to offend anyone. It was just a silly riff...

Also, my sense of humour is about as good as my juicy sales copy.

But, again, I will say in all honesty that I don't see a difference between my two Dunhill pipes and any "artisan" pipe I have. As they say, it's just a piece of wood with two holes and some rubber, which are expertly drilled.

The rest is just window dressing, which you may or may not be tickled by.

Of course we can all agree that you’re not a REAL pipe smoker unless you’re smoking Penzance or original Balkan Sobranie in a Dunhill. Anything else is a pale shadow of what it’s all about.

Just to be clear, I’m joking. For something meant to be relaxing. . .

Sadly, I think there are folks who have that notion, as there are some who feel you're a poseur if you smoke other than a cob or a single cheap briar and OTC's.

Pipe smokers are just another population, with all kinds within it. Smoke what you like, how you like, and if someone has an issue with it, it's their issue, not yours, say I.

Despite all the criticism about Dunhill, which I voiced here as well, one thing I realised recently, Dunhill is one of the few modern day pipe makers, that make classic pipe shapes in all sizes.
I have problems to find an elegant classic pipe nowadays.
In the past there were Barling, Charatan, Comoy and so on. Nowadays they are gone.
