Some drinks (like beer and soda) sting my mouth during or after smoking a pipe. Why is this so and what drinks are suitable for pipe smoking?
When I started the pipe I read that alcohol removes a protective lining from the mouth, forget what it's called. And advised not to smoke while drinking. I do do it, but rarely I think because of that article.

Coffee makes my pipe tobacco shine. I wonder if part of that is managing the ph. Coffee is lightly acidic, and tobacco smoke alkaline.

Makes me wonder if the one time I got instant tongue bite was because I was smoking an alkaline pipe tobacco alongside an already alkaline drink. I may have to revisit a blend I thought I couldn’t smoke.

Carbonated beverages "sting" due to the local production of carbonic acid from the carbon dioxide.
People normally feel and disregard this "sting" however after smoking your tongue is sensitive.
I'd avoid carbonated beverages after smoking.
