To me smoking a tobacco without enjoying the tin note first is like drinking a wine without enjoying the bouquet first.
Indeed on the 20-pt wine scoring system, colour is given points out of 3, the nose/bouquet 7 points and palate 10 points.With wine, they call that the "nose" of the wine. I think it is a pleasure not to be overlooked.
I recall many years ago being so entranced by the nose of a wine (an 15yo 1967 Ch d'Yquem) that I was still "nosing" my glass when most had already emptied their glasses.
Yup. Different strokes..........For me, the tin note is just an aspect of the whole pipesmoking experience. It's important for me... but maybe not someone else.
