When I was in high school we had to take “Health” class. Our teacher told us an aerobic exercise was anything which made the heart beat faster.
About a week later, he told us the effects of tobacco, including the fact that it made the heart beat faster.
I couldn’t resist, I just had to ask him about it.
“You told use an aerobic exercise is anything which makes the heart beat faster, right?”
“Yes, that is correct.”
“You told us smoking makes the heart beat faster, does that mean smoking is an aerobic exercise?”
The teacher was noticeably pissed about it, but most students found the humor in it.
Of course, based on the way he had described it, it would have been true. But mostly, I was just being a smartass.
My point is, (if I even have one) that it may be fun to try and deduce that smoking is good, but I don’t think you can make a real statement of fact that it is beneficial to health.
That being said, in the early 1940s my great-grandfather was told to start smoking by his doctor because he had a slow heartbeat, or something like that. The man had never smoked, but he did take his doctors advice. He still did not live to be very old. Of course, this was in the days of ads that said “4 out of 5 doctors smoke Camels!”
