Yea, between the garden, plotted plants, hanging baskets, getting the hoses out, etc., it’s about a 45 min chore. If I’m not in a hurry, it can be kinda of relaxing, but generally it’s a PITA. Plants do better w/rain too… Picked my first red tomatoes yesterday, so that’s a plus!

Getting around to it is difficult. Actually doing it is somewhat satisfying, once I've gone to the trouble to fill a watering can or set up a hose.

I think gardening is highly therapeutic, making things grow, getting edible vegetables or herbs, or beautiful flowers. It seems like something I'd gravitate to doing, but mostly I haven't.

As much as I love flowers and gardens, I hate gardening and maintenance. That's why I only plant stuff that works for the climate/conditions here. I want to set it and forget it.

That's why I don't do tulips, even though they're my favorite. Not digging up bulbs and putting them in the freezer and replanting every year.

Back yard's full of tea olives, star jasmine, stuff like that. Some various oriental group lilies in the front yard. I was trying to get Brugmansia suaveolens in three colors as the central feature of my front garden, but where I wanted it is too shaded. I was going to grow various Datura around it.

I eventually plan to get some Nicotiana alata too, not sure where to plant though. My yard will eventually be a mini, low maintenance botanical garden.

Yes it’s my morning or evening meditation. I have no house outback and that’s where my garden is. And basically the whole backyard is a garden. So I have to fill 2 big jugs from the kitchen sink many times. Oddly, I find this more enjoyable than last summer when I was borrowing the neighbor’s hose. It get’s the blood flowing for the day and seems to keep my core and shoulders toned as an added bonus. But I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been appreciative of these July soakers where it rains for an hour or 2 then back to a nice sunny summer day. It’s nice not to be slave to a routine but it ain’t so bad when I must adhere to it. It takes 1.5 hours to do all the yard. Berries are .5 hrs, veg is 1 hr. I do have some tomatoes kale and tomatillos out front and other stuff I growing inside but that stuff is minor in comparison.

Absolutely. Especially on a long drive after a large coffee.

All kidding aside my front garden is about 30x17 with many types of flowers like Iris, Peony, Lilac, Hydrangeas, Day Lilly, Azaleas, Hibiscus and various wildflowers like Buttons and Lungwort. Have some Japanese Hakone grasses. With the rain this year its been easy. Some years I run the sprinklers constantly.

The back yard is mainly shade plants like fusia, hellebore, impatients and begonias.

The water chore is very annoying at times. So I have my teenage son do it. Makes it much easier for me. 😆 🤣

Gardening is probably the single most soothing thing I do - living in the city I’m restricted to my balcony when growing outdoors, but that balcony is a jungle of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and wildplants. I like to smoke out there right after watering - the smell of the wet earth and plants is so calming. It’s also much less work watering a dozen plants - in times when I’ve had a larger garden, watering has been a much less magical, more tedious responsibility.
