Do You Like Snow?

They've been saying that in the next week we're gonna be getting some snow in the UK. We'll see

We had three long bursts of driving hail earlier today. Not snow I know but the temps are just about right for the full on white stuff

I was told a neat trick if ever caught out in icy conditions.....take off your shoes & socks, put your shoes back on and your socks over your shoes.....not so slippy anymore

I like it from December to January but by February I'm sick of it. Heck I've even had snow on my birthday up here in NE Ohio and that's late April.

I also love a good blizzard. Nothing quite beats going out at midnight to catch up on some clearing, then just taking a seat in a big snow pile for a while as it just covers everything without a man made sound in ear shot as if it's bad enough, the plows will only really focus on the emergency roads and leave the smaller roads a bit more wild. It's one of the very few moments where everything is genuinely quiet.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Up until several years ago, I lived somewhere with plenty of snow. I've lived beyond the Arctic circle with my parents as a kid (my dad was in the Navy, and we lived in strange places). I've seen enough snow for the rest of my life, I think. Very happy to be currently living in a place that never gets snow.

No, but I’m back north for the festive season and it’s snowing today! Got the last of the yard work done yesterday and am enjoying a pipe by the fire looking out at the snow accumulating on the winter ready deck.

I cannot express how much I hate SNOW! I was born, raised and lived in the Chicago Area for 60 years. The last 24 years, I have lived in Henderson, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas. We have had snow, maybe a half dozen times in the last 24 years, very mild, but still dangerous driving. Of course, there is plenty of snow if you want to experience it at about the 4 to 5 thousand foot level and up in the mountains all around us!

Christmas Eve at a Cabin in Wears Valley Tennessee.
This cabin was on a mountain peak with extreme winds and weather compared to the Valley below and off an access road that was paved but required chains and 4x4 during winter weather.
That morning my brother who I flew up from Baton Rouge says I’d like to see snow for once on Christmas
It started about noon on the 24th and by Christmas Morning was up to the door handles on my Rubicon.
This is probably then only time I actually enjoyed it !
Total quiet, seclusion and breathtaking views!

We usually get plenty of snow and subzero temps in the winter. I’m used to it, have had real winters my whole life. I enjoy snowshoes and looking at it, good time to go bird hunting - sorts out the fair weather crowd, but at some point in my life I expect to avoid these kinds of winters and honestly don’t think I’ll miss them a whole lot.

In E Iowa , we usually get maybe 1or 2 " big " snow storms a year (8-10 inches) . Also usually get a week or two with low temps -10* . Not enjoyable , but hey, it helps keep the riff-raft out .

Would not like to live in one of the snow belt areas (Buffalo for example). It is not uncommon for them to get 3 ft dumped on them ! I don't know how their roofs can keep from collapsing !

Have a friend with a place near Tahoe - unbelievable how much snow gets piled up there.

There are things in life that are, to me, unique. The tranquility I find stepping out the door in the evening or night and seeing an undisturbed layer of snow blanketing the ground is unparalleled. I have always loved snow.

For a southerner from eastern Spain, snowing is like seeing a UFO a few meters away. Suddenly you see people with hiking poles, scarves, polar coats, heavy traffic, massive purchase of brandy. I love the snow, living in a forest area, that extreme stillness, it must be magnificent. We have practically two months of cold in the whole year, cold that can be +15º degrees, (59 °F) something laughable.

I like the snow. Living in Wisconsin, i always have some sort of awd or 4wd vehicle.

The wierd thing, is that in Wisconsin, it snows every year. In my 35 years here, I've never NOT seen it snow in a year.

Yet everytime a few small flakes fall, everyone forgets how to drive. Like their feet get stuck to the accelerator. It's ridiculous.

Every snowfall, is everyone's FIRST snowfall.

Definitely risible. Cold begins at MINUS 15 °C. Anything between that and PLUS 10 is primaveral.

OK, now I gotta head out and shovel a lot more snow from last night's storm.

I like it, but I don't really have much choice. The photo below was last year; we haven't got as much accumulation this year, yet. I lived in Australia for a number of years and didn't really miss it until Christmas. The Southern Hemisphere summer with Christmas decorations and music just seemed off.

I'm generally indifferent to the weather, it is what it is but, yes indeed, I do enjoy a "white Christmas."

Another Wisconsinite here who spent my kid years growing up in northern Minnesota, middle/high school in NW Wisconsin and then down here in Milwaukee, snow is engrained into me. As @didimauw noted there’s a lot of things to do in the snow. While he likes the mechanical snow machines and ATVs, growing up I enjoyed cross country and downhill skiing along with snowshoeing. Some insane people even like to go out onto the ice and sit in an ice shanty for hours wondering if a fish is gonna take a bite on their tip-up!

I lived in the Puget Sound area for a few years and I never got used to having no snow in the winter and that was honestly part of the reason why I moved back to the Midwest. I need those four, distinct, seasons to feel normal so of course I love snow….at least the first few weeks of it. By the end of January I’m starting to pine for spring again and thus begin to loathe that shit lol
