Another day I received this very Peterson Cara from Spc and while the drilling is death straight and centered, and the pipe was said to be successfully passed pre-shipping inspection executed by sales clerk,I however noticed something to be weird with this Peterson, at the closer look I have discovered like if the shank (for the stem tenon) has been a bit mis drilled
and this might have caused that the stem sits high not 100% straight in line,I'd be interested to hear what opinion you may have to tell on this subject ,moreover the overall final finishing of he pipe may leave something to be desired, it feels like whole pipe was put together in a desperate hurry, being somewhat inferior with pipes of the same price range($105) pipes from other renowned manufacturers such as Savinelli or say Stanwell.Nontheless I have feeling that this pipe is gonna smoke well if I keep it ,but also I have option to ship it back which ain't cheap operation, Thank You for your Time,CIMG1062.JPGCIMG1063.JPGCIMG1064.JPG

it feels like whole pipe was put together in a desperate hurry,
It's like when someone buys a Harbor Freight tool, and then posts that the rotation is wobbly, or the engine just seized up after an hour, or it leaks... it just doesn't surprise me. I know that Smoking Pipes has been doing their best to whip those boys into shape over there. And, I am a tad... a small tad... surprised that they've let some like this slip through still. But... when sloppy workmanship has been status quo for so long... old habits... and all that.
Maybe touch base with Smokingpipes Euro headquarters. I'm certain they'd twist some arms and snap some necks for you to get you satisfied.

Thank You for your input boys, well, You may know I'm a kinda perfectionist when it comes to pipes and use to have higher-end pipes too ,Castellos, Dunhills, Ashtons etcetera)I'm sure this will smoke well, but with the $ 106 price tag on it I have a hard time to gulp this like of manufacturer carelessness, yet I can't stop wondering what was that sales clerk thinking who was executing pre-sale inspection, but yes let us see, I might get in touch with folks at SPC customer service and see If we shall re-route this sucker right away to Petersons in Sallynogging Irland

Simply return it if unsmoked

A damn' shame. Peterson still can't get it right. That's why I avoid buying their pipes. As someone mentioned it does appear like the stem is 180 off and they stamped it upside down. I dunno - but anyone can see with a 2 second glance that the pipe is whacked. It looks they are still slopping on the stain as well.

I think you're absolutely correct that this pipe would smoke well if you do decide to keep it, but I suggest that you allow us to pick out a replacement for you. As pipe smokers we all have different standards and preferences, but in my experience, if there's something about a pipe that's not "right," you're better off returning it, as long as it hasn't been smoked of course.

Shoot me a message, or feel free to reach out to our Customer Service team directly. I'd also be more than happy to inspect the replacement myself before it ships.

I agree with above. I’d send it back. I’ve reluctantly accepted pipes with small blemishes or imperfections in the past due to the inconvenience of returning, but this is different...

Hi Shane, Good to hear from You Sir,and thank You for taking time to chime in, well, I been in contact with your Customer service representative and we've come to conclusion that it might be easiest to send the pipe back to the factory and when needed get a replacement sent right from the house in SallyNoggins'IE and this way avoid having to pay any additional customs taxes.Best Greets, and Thank You, Paul

I absolutely love Peterson's best stuff, and am appalled by their worst.

It's frustrating to say the least.

There are two possibilities:

1 -- The workers can't get it right consistently (lack of experience / skill)

2 -- The workers aren't allowed to get it right consistently (time pressure)

In either event, how/why sub-par stuff is getting shipped is exactly the same problem all over again. Either:

1 -- The QA people lack the ability to identify it

2 -- The QA people aren't allowed to stop every problem they catch

The most amazing part of the thread subject pipe is that the mortise wasn't drilled co-axially.

How that's even possible is difficult to imagine.

I wish I was 20 years younger, there was no COVID, and Laudisi was looking for someone who could get this situation sorted. I 100% guaranteee I'd get it done and everyone involved would be happier by the end of the project. Even the shop hands who've been there 40 years.

Damn, this is frustrating.

It seems last few Peterson pipes I have received seem to have changed their "engineering." They all have center draft hole in shank (which is surprise), but mortise is not drilled deep like they used to. One of the pipe has shank end not very evenly leveled off causing stem to sit little off ( but lovely grain and I kept it). I guess lot of new people making pipes.
