I habitually clean my pipes after I smoke them to set up for the next bowl in that pipe. Since I have about 92 pipes, each gets a good long rest. Lately I've noticed I also like to spruce them up before I smoke them, a pipe cleaner, maybe a bristle pipe cleaner to the airway and bit, and some buffing with a cloth. Do you ever do a pre-smoking clean-up?

Since the post-bowl clean-up feels obligatory, and sometimes it is at the end of the evening, or rushing to do something else, I feel a little extra cleaning at my convenience fills in any lapses. I prize a pipe with some age on it, so if it also looks good, and spruced up, that makes it more appetizing to smoke. A well-maintained older pipe may be even a little more appealing than a relatively new one. A little wear bespeaks enjoyment.

Yes, always a pipe cleaner, and a polish of the stem and stummel with a microfiber cloth.

After every bowl I clean the piss out of my pipe and it doesn't go back in the rack till it has had it's cleaning. Sometimes I will get lazy and clean the pipe in the morning. Those pipes don't get smoked until a day after as I don't smoke a pipe that could be wet.
I make it a point to never let dirty pipes build up into a large pile of them. The most pipes that have not been cleaned is 6. I hate a dirty pipe so I mostly clean my pipes at night or early in the evening . Sometimes I will clean a pipe just a couple of hours after being used. I always make sure the pipe is cool enough to break down so I can clean the stem and rest of the pipe before going to bed. I like waking up to a fully cleaned collection which gives me a choice of what I might want to smoke.

I remember years ago letting 6-10 pipes sit over night and not get cleaned till the morning. I even let some pipes stay dirty for a couple of days. That never happens anymore with my new system. I have found that when my pipes are totally clean, they always taste better.

I disassemble, clean, and polish them after every smoke. They stay on padded mats on closet shelves and need no cleaning before using again.

Yep sometimes I'll bristle out the shank before a bowl. I don't really have a "cleaning day", just soft pipe cleaner after a smoke. So the only time I'm thinking about how long it's been since I bristled is when I pick up the pipe for a smoke.
