I always seem to be late to the party on this one but how do you guys know beforehand that limited editions are being released? I’m speaking of Eight State and Sun Bear as examples. Unfortunately I only have limited time in my day to spend on the net looking around for tobacco so when I see a blend mentioned on WAYS and immediately go to SP to check them out they’re already gone and being resold at exorbitant prices. If anyone out there can let me know the secret or give me a heads up when something new is on the way I would be eternally grateful.

As much as I love and appreciate SP I find it a bit irritating that they still lists the like of Eight State, Cringle and SB Black Locust when it’s all gone and isn’t coming back any time soon (or is it?). It just reminds me of what I can’t have.

Besides emails from etailers, I usually hear about them on the forum. Typically it’s well in advance of the drop date. Smokingpipes usually has drops at midnight Eastern time. I’ve notice that Watch City drops their blends around 2ish. Others vary. I’m not sure how it is if it’s not their blends though. For example Cringle on SP.

Most of these releases are advertised on social media, and in particular Instagram. If you're ever searching for something I can always find it for you at the B&Ms, for example there is a cache of Eight State and who knows what else.

At the moment I'm at the headwaters of the Mississippi river in a cabin in the middle of the woods---for work!---without cell signal but should be out of here in Monday!

This is the only form of social media I actually take part in but it looks like I’m gonna have to join the rest of you with both feet in the 21st Century. This iPhone is on its last legs and I need a new device before it gives up the ghost, I might have to invest in a tablet as well and take the plunge into other forms of social media. The begging by friends and relatives to join various sites has had no effect on me but the prospect of getting my hands on tobacco could put me over the edge.

Thank you for the offer, I hope you have a great weekend, I’ll pm you next week mate. ?

They're doing that with all the popular names so it pops up in Google searches.

As it has already been mentioned: the world is fastly moving forward - emails used to be the first alert, but now you really have to be plugged into the socials to get the announcements.

Don't like it, but sadly it's just something you have to do now if you want to be the early bird.

Create an account at SP and TP to get on their email list. Check in here every couple of days. Someone here always starts a thread well in advance of the new release coming out. If you're missing out it's because you're not trying at all.
You’re spot on, I’ve not really been trying very hard up to this point. I have an account with SP but like a fool I don’t think I ticked the email alert box, I’ll remedy that immediately. Thank you for the advice, live and learn eh. ?

I’ve tried logging on to Pipes and Cigars but it won’t allow access, I don’t think they deal with the UK which is unfortunate. Very unfortunate because it seems they’re the only retailer I’ve found that stocks the new Cascadia Plugs.

I'm a little wary of buying on a hair trigger because something is available only in a limited amount. Some of these special editions appeal only to some pipe smokers. For a limited amount of time.
Normally I’d agree, but after trying the Eight State I was very impressed, I know they’re not all going to be as good but I don’t mind buying blind occasionally, especially at US prices, the tax here is ridiculous.

The SPC releases and dates are usually posted on their home page sliding menu. No need for social media to know about them.

people are still looking for those. They could waste time trying different search especially if they don't know the name 100 percent.

Spend a Saturday looking for small mom and pops in the low tax states and see what you can find. I found many retailers more than happy to sell you 5 pound bags of Samuel Gawith and Esoterica products. You need to be ready to spend big. When you ask a retailer if they have 5 pounds of something, they know you are a serious buyer. If they don't have it just then, ask them to call you when they do. Give them your telephone number. Do that another 20 times with other tobacconists and then you will start getting phone calls. Don't go in asking for 2 tins, they will just ignore you. You want the good stuff, then be ready to buy a boat load.

Smokingpipes.com updates at noon (Eastern Time), just make a habit of checking the website at that time every day and you'll have plenty of opportunity.

In general I'm not bothered by limited editions, the chances of anything limited being worthwhile compared to the good readily available Bulk blends is pretty slim.
