I have two or three really big-bowled pipes, and I find them great for extra long smokes with loose tobacco, and as noted earlier, they really bring out a complex blend. My favorite is a semi-rusticated slightly bent apple from Johs. It's a Group Six XL and really swallows tobacco. Likewise, I have several really small pipes for short smokes, sampling, or for that matter for a good 30 or 40 minutes smoke with flake. Most of my pipes are mid-sized, but I like my options. A really big bowl gives you the complete keyboard of flavor in a complex (five, six or more tobaccos) blend, and it provides a smoke approaching an hour, or more. Sometimes you need some deep thought.
