Um... no. No, we haven't. Lol

Well, maybe we have. Maybe each of us has answered the question for ourselves, and we all buy, and smoke, accordingly.

I'm reminded of a conversation I had several years ago with a collector of ultra high grade pipes, Nordhs, Chonowitschs, Ivarssons, etc, the royalty of pipemakers, the créme de la créme, the nee plus ultra, the summit, top of Mt Everest, etc, etc. And of course, I had to ask him THE question. Do his fabulously expensive ultra high grade, world wide celebrated, pipes smoke better than pipes that we poor mortals could afford? He paused and then said, "Well, they smoke about as well as my Grabows, but they a LOT better looking and much more fun."
That remains the best and most conclusive answer to this question that I have ever heard, or will ever hope to hear.

have you ever even smoked a cheap pipe?
I tend to avoid cheap pipes and cheap women, but often give way to the allure of cheap thoughts.
The measurement of "cheap" of course is relative, like many things in life.

Damn! I didn't figure Missouri Meerschaums into the equation.

Seriously, if you ever judged how well cheap pipes smoked by smoking just cobs then you would reach the conclusion that they smoke damn well.

Cobs are a whole separate issue. I never even think of them in this context; I assume we are comparing cheap briars to expensive briars because, for all practical purposes, there is only one player in the cob market. And none of theirs are what I would call "expensive".
