I'll defend the Drinkless system, the old screw-in stem and stinger combination. Mind you, I'm not exhorting anyone to go looking for one of these. I have a Kaywoodie Drinkless Ruff-Tone, a sort of author shape with those funny carved grooves in bowl and shank, not a looker. But once I got the bit cranked around to square with the bowl -- and thank you to sable' for advice on that -- it has been a surprisingly good pipe. When possible, I remove stingers, label them (the archivist in me) and never deal with them again. But this stinger is quick to clean, and I have always been pleased with the smoke it delivers. Like my one P-lip, the uniqueness isn't necessary, but the smoking is just fine. Nice weight pipe, good clenching, ample bowl, pleasing balance, good hand feel. The Edward G. Robinson will remove all doubts.
