Director's Cut Update?

IMG_6711.jpeg

I'm finishing up my tin of original HU Director's Cut from 2015 and considering a possible re-order from Esterval's (even though I have stated unequivocally that'm done buying). I remember a recent thread, however, where folks were decrying the changes made since the demise of HU in-house manufacturing.

Can anyone offer their experiences with the old and new blends?

Thanks.

I haven't bought any Director's Cut since 2019 (or was it 2018) when the Perique had clearly been largely displaced with DFK. I was not happy with that result, but earlier this year I popped open a jar of it while packing up the cellar for the move. The good news is that the DFK had settled down and that the result was a pretty good smoke. Subsequent to my last purchase the blend was changed again, taking out some of the DFK, but not increasing the Perique. I have no idea what it's like these days.

Well, I guess I'll order one tin and see how Director's Cut is this month. WTF can't they just leave a good thing alone?

You would think that they've noticed the pattern by now:
1. Great product is introduced.
2. Sales are great.
3. A few small cuts are made, nobody seems to notice.
4. More substantial cuts are made.
5. Sales dwindle.
6. Product is discontinued due to declining sales.

But...
7. Product manager pockets MBO $
8. Product manager moves on to new, better paying job.

...And some people called foul on the McNiels for packing it in...

7. Product manager uses the difference to keep the business afloat in an environment of ever-increasing labor and material costs and expensive and complex regulatory compliance.

8. Product manager has ulcers between now and when one of the two or three standing tobacco conglomerates who can afford compliance lawyers buys the IP and fires him in the merger.

Fixed that for you!

Im intersted in hearing your results when you get a new tin. Id like to think they fixed the problem since Directors Cut is also the most expensive of the HU blends.

It’s complex, to be sure.
There’s good reasons why I’m not in the pipe tobacco business any more. Money, or rather the lack thereof, is the first on the list.

Im smoking some right now. I have to say its my perfect VaPer. Occasionally I lace it with a little salty dogs when I feel in the mood for a little sweeter treat. Im stocked up but I will probably get a few more tins.
