The only effective 'palate cleaning' I have found after smoking cherry aromatics is to first lick a bar of glycerin soap, immediately followed by a good gargle with Listerine (the original medicinal yellow one) or a shot of Dutch Jenever, and finally a thorough bushing of teeth and tongue, roof and sides of mouth with bacon-flavored toothpaste. That usually does the trick in the most extreme cases. Disclaimer: your mileage may vary.
I don't intentionally cleanse my palate. I smoke 3 or so different tobaccos during the day, so I have normally had some food and or drink between bowls.
