Personally, I only have one direct connection…and that’s to a former LPGA golfer; we grew up in the same town. But I have a cousin who drives tour buses for a lot of acts out of Nashville. And my best friend from high school--with whom I’m still close—has been a dresser on Broadway for a decade and has also worked on a number of TV shows, including “Blindspot” and “Girls5Eva.” Because dressing someone is intimate work, he’s become close with many of the stars he’s worked with, including Martin Short, Ashley Johnson, Harvey Fierstein, and even the members of Monty Python. No way would I ever think of asking for a connection, though. (I did once ask him to send me a selfie of him with Ashley Johnson--I’m a fan of “The Last of Us 1&2”—but by the time I asked, “Blindspot” had wrapped and they had all gone their separate ways.)

Ah. I just remebered another one.

I met a notable---though not "famous"---Major League baseball player as a spectator at a motocross race in AZ by chance, and ended up doing a fair amount of weekend desert riding and improvisational track stuff with him. I didn't even know "who he was" (so to speak) for several weeks. Very humble and likable guy.

He had a winter/offseason house in Phoenix, apparently.

A cousin of mine, Brian Locking (1938-2020) was bassist with the Shadows. He also played with Marty Wilde, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Joe Brown, Brenda Lee and many others. He also appeared in Cliff Richard's musical film 'Summer Holiday'.

As well as bass he also played clarinet which apparently is in the business known as a 'liquorish stick' which is how he became known as 'Liquorice Locking'.

Not a bad life considering he started out as a fireman/trainee loco driver.

Jay.

I am a distant relative of both Alice Cooper and John Oates.
Could I reach them on the phone? No easier than anyone else could.
Does it still kick ass? Yes.
Never met, probably won’t, and if I did, I wouldn’t go off about it, but it’s cool enough for me.

This lovely lady ( the one on the left ) was my fathers ( now 93 ) full cousin .
She shows the typical Borchers' family features some of us are still blessed with :)
Cornell ( Cornelia ) Borchers 1925-2014 . She was a tall, blonde , turquoise eyed German born American movie star :

Google her, in Technicolor she looks sweet too.

When I was a lad, my best friend's cousin, Glen Duncan, grew up to become a famous fiddle player in the worlds of bluegrass and Nashville. It seems my friend's family was genetically musically gifted: I recall that his father could play almost any instrument, and play it well, including Hammond B3 organ. saxophone, piano, and accordion, to name but a few. Mr. Duncan was playing lap-steel guitar by age seven, followed soon by guitar, banjo, piano, guitar, and, finally, fiddle.

Here's Mr. Duncan, with the bluegrass super-group, Longview, playing The Lost Cave, from the album Lessons In Stone:

My ex missus has many well known 'faces' in her family tree including Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery of El Alamein (3rd great uncle I think).

Her 3rd great grandfather was Sir Richard Bethell, 1st Baron Westbury, who was Lord Chancellor of Great Britain 1861-1865 in the Palmerston government.

Another relative was Major Philip Cardew R.E. who invented the Cardew Voltmeter in 1883.

A more recent bunch were the Cardew studio potters Michael, his son Seth & his son Ara (now living in the USA).

Regards,

Jay.

That sounds beautiful Hunter, I can only wonder how good it would sound played on my Hi-Fi as opposed to my laptop. Some serious music there.

Jay.

We used to live in Brunswick, ME. We frequently went to functions where we would bump into Mary Herman (she kept her maiden name). She was married to the governor, but they continued to reside in Brunswick and he would commute to Augusta. Later on we moved to Cumberland Foreside and didn’t see her for a couple of years. We bumped into her again and while we were talking, my wife asked her what her husband was doing now. Without batting an eye she replied, “He’s a United States Senator from Maine (Angus King).
