oh, sorry lonestar. was refering to fly rods. 8wt, 10wt, etc..

would be under gunned with 8#or10# line. but it has been done but not by me.

yep, cobia can be a real handfull on any rod. stay green way too long and hard to tire one out. sometimes a bat just isnt quite enough. they just dont know when calm down, quit thrashing around. gotta watch those spines. can ruin a days fishing. think i would rather pull a 2/0 out of my hand.

hate catching sharks. steal baits and trash tackle.

usually just cut them off. only sharks that i dont mind catching are black tips. they go from around 4 to 7 feet long and can be fun especially if you like it.

Went to an area of the archipelago where I haven't tried fishing before, by a sunken ship (reaches from the bottom at 14m to just a meter or two below the surface) and caught several pikes in a relatively short time period. Definitely marking that spot in my mental chart. :)
Picture is of my father - he caught the biggest one today (though I caught more)

Nemrod that's a nice Pike your Dad is holding for sure. I've caught many monster Pike in Northern Quebec years ago and tried to eat them but was not impressed at all. Great sport fishing but that was the end of it. The Walleye is probably the best freshwater fish I've ever had the pleasure to eat. Wish we had some here in the Northeast, have to travel way north to Canada for those. Thanks for posting the picture.

When I lived in the upper peninsula of Michigan I did a lot of kayak fishing for pike.

I got lucky and got mine for a song. The guy at the store misquoted the price to me as $100 and the manager said DOH but they gave it to me for that price.

Man this thread makes me want to go fishing. I have not been fishing in years, used to go everyday after school when I was a youngster just to the little nearby stream and catch brook trout. Took one trip up to Canada when i was about 12 - that was amazing, walleye, perch, and northern pike fishing for a whole week. Someday I'll get back out there

Speaking of Northern Michigan...

Night fishing for Carp on the fly rod. Not so good to eat, but you can't find a better fight!
And another wide-angle of the Sturgeon River taken with the Pano app on my phone, gotta go widescreen to appreciate it.

Went casting from shore the other day and got a 70cm or so northern pike :)

Had a dozen or so followers that turned at the surface before striking the lure, lazy fish.
