I currently shave once a week wether I need to or not. After reading this thread and watch some youtube vids I'm totally interested in DE shaving now. I think shaving with a DE along with the pre and post shave treatments may even help improve the condition of my skin.
I would have never guessed that by becoming a member of a pipe smoking forum would result in the changing of the method in which I've been shaving for the past 25 years. :)

Anyone who shaves with a cartridge razor will be amazed by the difference a "real" razor makes. Not just in price, but in the quality of the shave. I actually enjoy shaving now. I picked up a box of Arko shave sticks (the best soap in the known world IMHO) and 100 red personas for less than $30. That's going to have me set for a least a year. Gotta love the economy, even if the shave wasn't an order of magnitude better.

@jameral, it might help your skin, it did mine but be ready to experiment. If you have bad skin I would suggest trying witch hazel. I use it daily right after I finish shaving. I let it dry and then toss on a nice smelling aftershave. I was surprised how many ladies perk right up and compliment me when I have it on.
The beard is a classic look for a man often giving them a distinguished look but if you want to shave toss out the goo in a can and cart razors...go for a str8, SE or DE razor. Nothing starts a day like a good clean shave with all the scents and ritual....and a pipe!

I make aftershave by steeping a cut up aloe vera leaf, a few cloves and a handful of chopped mint leaves in witch hazel for about a week. It feels cool, smells good and heals just about anything you can do to your face. It also makes a great hair tonic.

Great idea. I recall seeing a recipe for Bay Rum online. It looked simple enough but I always seem to drink all the rum before I can make it.
