2035 might be a start. Back in the 1990's someone at a show had some that they had baked in the oven, then re -pressed in a length of PVC using boards and c clamos for some period of time I don't recall. I think the consensus was it came pretty close.

Dark Star and Butera Royal Vintage: Dark Stoved go through the exact same process. The Butera smokes quite nicely when I cube cut it into tiny cubes and let it dry a couple of hours. If you want the flavors of Dark Star you should be calling some small mom and pops and look for the Butera.

Yeah, that was made by McC, so I don't think you'll see it again. Though, I have heard tell their flakes are coming back in stock, but may "taste different". So maybe they're keeping the flake names, but sourcing them elsewhere.

That sounds interesting Tom as I'm a fan of their London Flake which some say was just a rebadged #2015. I shall keep my eyes peeled.
BTW, is this snippet of info internet gossip or is it from a reliable source?

I would say that Rattray’s Dark Fragrant has a lot of similar base notes and Esoterica’s Blackpool will get ya there too.
And yes, neither of these are exact matches and in fact, I prefer both of these over Dark Star.

That would be internet gossip. BUT, the fella said he just bought some London Flake at the shop (OOS on their website) and was told at the shop that flakes would be back in stock, but would be different flakes under the same names. Obviously this is second-hand information, third by the time you're reading it. Could be solved by a call to the shop, but I've also heard tell that they're not that great to talk to on the phone and are hesitant to give out any actual information regarding where they source stuff they don't make themselves.
One of my favorite aromatics... licorice... Not really a match at all, IMO. But, I did enjoy it. But, I got pissed when I picked up five pounds of it, only to have every single jar mold over. That was an expensive loss.
It was a rebadged something McClelland, maybe with a minor top note variation? At any rate, even tobaccoreviews says their flakes are being sourced elsewhere as of March 2018. I don't know who made that edit, though.
