After a few years of this abomination I've come to the conclusion that I STRONGLY believe STG is doing this on purpose. Why?, to justify the cancelation of the tobacco completely. I think they want to thin the herd with how many brands of pipe tobacco they produce. I've had SWR, Granger, Half and Half, Velvet and Paladin in the 7oz tubs. They are all the same cut and with exception to Paladin, they all taste the same with SWR having the massive nasty apple cider vinegar smell and flavor. If they have low sales, they can justify getting rid of those blends. Cigars and bulk aromatics is where they make their profits from. I'm betting in five years there will be no more 7oz tubs for sale.

There’s an earlier post elsewhere to let the SWR air out with the lid off or partially covered. The vinegar (PG replacement) will dissipate and the good stuff is still there. YMMV.
That reminds me of something Mark Ryan told me to do when I encountered an ammonia smell in a tub of tobacco. Pour it out onto a tray and just let it air out, giving it a little spritz of distilled water if necessary. Worked like a charm. Should work for this as well.

Otherwise, Just pretend that it’s McClelland’s evil twin.

Doesn’t work for me with SWR. STG is well aware of the vinegar complaints. I made a formal complaint over a year ago and received a canned response. I raised the same to Leonard W and he said the STG QC department was aware and looking into it. They must be blind, or just don’t care.

Doesn't work for you in that you tried airing out the SWR with no success, or that it doesn't work for you because you think STG should get its collective head out of its collective ass and address this issue?

I agree whole heartedly that SWR isn't what it used to be, but if you are willing to put the effort into drying it out thoroughly it is still a decent blend. The trouble with STG blends is that the tobacco isn't the quality that it used to be. They aren't the only one to lessen their quality as Prince Albert and Carter Hall are no longer what they were. Get over it. There are plenty of blends to choose from. I can see a day when STG's eyes are bigger than their belly and they will end up selling out. We will then hear the cries from everyone about the STG blends going away. All of this is just my opinion. It is no better or worse than anyone else's, and with all opinions, they mean nothing.
