Would love to see a whole list of alternate names that came out of that workshop.

I appreciate the artistry and the skill in carving of freehands, but have yet to find one that speaks to me enough to want to buy it and have it in my rotation. I love how the grain can tell the story of a freehand, and truly dig the organic nature of the shapes. I guess I'm just waiting for the right one to come along.

I parrot pruss.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing and enjoying seeing the well executed and artistic freehand. I've not found one which cried out for me to take it home. But, there is no denying the art and skill in marrying vision, grain, shape and proportion. A sculpted piece of art many of them certainly are.

IIS as others have said, were Preben Holm seconds. I don't have any Danish, but the mark was basically a shorthand abbreviation indicating a second in Danish.

From an earlier period than the Factory Fancy Freehand Phenomenom, showing the "tighter" lines of the early 1960s Danish Modern design period, a Celius.

Actually, Preben Holm's early work (marked P. HOLM, say mid '60's) was influenced by, and a part of this aesthetic.

Haha, I couldn't help but post the underside of the second pipe, I just think it looks so cool
I totally agree!
Monte Verdi all came for Preben Holm's workshop
Monte Verdi! Whatever happened to them? They were around everywhere when I was young and I used to drool over those.

I guess since everyone is showing off their Danish freehands, here is a picture of my circa 1972 PH Ben Wade Hand Model. Walked into the pipe store one day and it said: Buy Me!:

The genre is expressive of the briar itself and this can lead to heavier hand-held smokers rather than clenchers, but especially Nording has produced quite a few pipes in the genre that are light weight and suitable for clenching, notably his signature pipes but others as well.

They are beautiful pipes but I generally find them to be too heavy.
The one I shown above says right on it: "Hand Model." It really is a pleasure to hold, you barely know its there, and even when I smoke a billiard or the like I hold them, easier on the mouthpieces and helps avoid recurring TMJ.

toobfreak, your Ben Wade is very similar to the one I had. Mine was a bit stouter and shorter. I wish I knew what became of it. I'm learning to build my own now. This is my second, completed earlier today...
