We had rabbits when I was young. All for food. Rabbit soup is delicious.
I have rabbits now for the same. Well, two are pets... a silver martin and a black otter rex, both came from a black otter rex buck, but the silver martin came from a Giant Chinchilla/White New Zealand cross doe and the black otter came from a [standard] Chincilla/New Zealand doe.

Not counting Luci[fer] (rex) and Crowley (silver martin), we have the two breeding bucks Oz (black otter rex, though smaller, he is stout) and Laszlo (Giant Chin/NZ) and three does Willow (Chin/NZ), Nadja (Giant Chin/NZ) and for the first time this year Harmony (tortoise shell that came from Oz and Nadja, and she is well-built and big, hopefully will throw stocky kits). Not really sure what the actual prominence of Oz is (like what his parents were).

We have a lot of wild rabbits here in rural SE Pennsylvania. But we also have fox and coyotes. Their populations are inversely proportional to each other. If it’s a good year for rabbits, next year will see a lot more fox kits.

We had flemmish giants. Had to feed 4 kids so we needed the meat. Grandad used to make gloves from the skins. He taught me but I haven't the area to practice it.

We have so many that I took up skinning and butchering them as a hobby. I think that having evolved to be so fast, they never really acquired any other "tough" traits like squirrels did. They're very passive and inoffensive creatures.

I'm confused . That looks like a wild rabbit . Did you feed it & it just kind of hung around ?
Yupe. My wife occasionally gave it carrots and apples. It enjoyed them. Used to come almost everyday to hide on our front garden. My wife was happy with it. Then it came here to die. I'm telling you, I should have gotten rid of it instead of telling her it died.

In Spain it is consumed quite a lot, especially for the typical Valencian paella, along with chicken meat, the rabbit gives it a very tasty flavor. But I would not eat a wild rabbit, without certificate and sanitary registration.
