It’s a pleasurable undertaking smoking a pipe regardless of frequency and if like you it’s done sparingly then no detriment to your health or wallet. I see no reason to remove something from your life that is enjoyable and hugely personal as there are so few things that one can do by yourself like this. Sure slow down but I would keep your cellar and draw on it as and when you feel like doing something entirely for yourself

How often have you decided to "cut back" on your smoking or your cellar, or both?

I'm at a point where I have much more than I could smoke considering I smoke less than once a month. I have only a few of my favorites and i'm considering selling the rest but I wanted to feel out what other people have done in their past.

Anyway, if you've quit and come back, please let me know. Or if you regret/ didn't regret selling your stash :)
If you have the space, keep all of it.
What’s the point of getting rid of it other than to clear space?
It will never be as inexpensive, available, and quality as it is now, or was when you bought it.

I'm shocked, in all the years I've been here you and Cosmic both usually have great reading and contextual comprehension! I have cut down already to once a month from where i was before - and am thinking about selling, wondering what happened with others who* fluctuated in thier smoking.
Ahh forgive me then, my contextual comprehension must be off today then, it rarely is😀. OK maybe once in a while.😉. If you have some Mclelland for cheap I’ll take it. You seem to have gone from one extreme to the other in smoking?, good for you!

I generally smoke one bowl a day..... sometimes two.... occasionally, I skip a few days.
Lately it has been very cold and I have not had any.
Same. I really enjoy my pipe with a Tea or Coffee (blend dependent) but it’s always when I want too.

Early or late morning is my favorite time to partake. One session, usually an hour. I often smoke two blends and enjoy two cups.

But rarely will I smoke more than once per day.

It’s a real pleasure. One I look forward to and have little intention of giving up.

Everything in moderation.

I've cut back my smoking considerably. As for my cellar, I had no idea how much I had bought until I had to pack it for a move year before last. I'd say that I more regret buying my stash. Nobody lives that long. And mine is a pretty modest cellar compared to many.

I remember having a conversation with Rob Cooper some years back and I was remarking on guys in their mid 70's, with hundreds of pounds of tobacco who were still actively buying and I said that it made no sense to me. Rob replied that once one stopped buying it was like admitting one's mortality.

Time for an inventory and some decisions.

You all misunderstood. I already cut back smoking from two to three pipes a day - I've been smoking less than once a month over the past 4 months and was more asking about people selling their cellars when they did something similar.
If that’s the case, I’d just hold on to the tobacco. To everything, there is a season. Who knows when you might want to come back to it? It’s not like it’ll lose value the longer you sit on it either.

Apologies for the misunderstanding.

I enjoy smoking my pipes very, very much.
But only 2 bowls on Saturdays and Sundays, in the main.
More often if I'm on holidays.

I smoked cigars exclusively for some 15 years before getting back to pipes, and have a fairly large inventory still.
But I reach for my cigars perhaps 5-6 times a year now, as I enjoy smoking my pipes so much more.
And yes, I am considering selling my stockpile of cigars.
Let someone else enjoy them.

It is nuts to be in your 70's sitting on several hundred pounds of tobacco while buying more.

I just love buying pipe tobacco.
I’m not sure I’ll ever stop buying it simply because it’s fun.
I like to read about it, shop for it, buy it and then smoke it. I love every step. I like to put it in jars and then label those jars. I like surveying my collection and thinking about it.

I totally get being 70 and still buying.

I have taken entire summer’s off. I’m no slave to nicotine. Typically the first sign of Fall reigns me in and I’ll smoke through the winter.

But in warmer weather? Other than cigars on a summer night with friends or while golfing, I have little interest in smoking anything.

But, then.. most of my interests are cyclical. I’ve always been this way.

I’ve enjoyed my pipes and pipe tobacco for over 30 years. When I return to something it’s like greeting an old friend.

Every one of us is different.
For me I smoke far more during the summer

I certainly buy more than I smoke especially in light of recent events. Down the road I might sell or trade some stuff but I'll probably just put my cellar in my will. If my nephews get into pipes when they're of age I'll will it to them, if not then I'll will it to be consigned.
