Has any had any mold issues with cringle flake 2022? One of my friends just texted me with a picture of his moldy cringle flake, so I checked my cellared jar and found this… my two friends found theirs in a much hairier and worse estate… this has been my first encounter with mold on pipe tobacco.
Edit: I’m aware this is a bad picture. But it is definitely mold. Fuzzy, and smelly. Not crystal or matte white. The mold for my two friends and I had developed after opening.

Tough to tell from that photo - Can you post some close-ups? I split a tin with my neighbor earlier this year and it was loaded with micro-crystals, not mold. We checked them under a microscope. I mean, I know you can see it better in person, but I'm surprised how many "molds" get diagnosed on Reddit, for example, that are actually just crystal deposits that form along the paper margins in the tin or along the grains while in the jar. CF22 has some ollllld baccy in it.

There have been numerous threads here on this very topic. In fact, I made one about 4 months ago.
I contacted Sutliff and sent them pics. They said it’s not mold but instead a chemical reaction that occurred between the baccy and that black, coated disc that’s in the tin.
They said it was fine to smoke.
I’m not sure what to think. Maybe it’s mold and maybe it isn’t but is it fine to smoke? Not sure.

I'm not quite convinced that it's mould from those pictures. I have some plug tobacco that has a whitish residue on it similar to that. It's not mold, but dense chrystally/resinous buildup

I tossed the tobacco. So I can’t get another picture, but it was definitely mold. It was fuzzy, and smelly. (Also both of my friends showed me theirs and it was coated with fuzzy mold.) also it was not there previously.

When I first opened the tin there were no signs of mold, other than some splotches that didn’t look like mold but might’ve been. Same with both my friends. The mold grew after the tins were open.

OK yeah. If it was fuzzy then it was surely mold. Smart move on tossing it.

I guess in the future. People who read this can dry it out a little before jarring it. I think that should do the trick.

That doesn't look like mold to me, but a better picture would be helpful.

I just finished a tin of the '22 vintage a couple days ago. I had jarred it as soon as opening the tin and have been smoking on it for some months. Didn't have any mold issues with it at all. Sorry for you and your friends. It's a good blend, imo.

OP, did you keep it in the tin or did you transfer to a jar?

I transferred mines to a jar. My friends both kept it in the tin, and mold was far worse.

It happens. I’m not complaining, just curious. Tobacco in the end is just leaves that are susceptible to mold.

Interesting. I have a decent stash of CF across multiple years, wondering how mine will fare. Kinda makes me nervous about it. But, what can ya do

Uh oh. I have only 3 tins, so I’ll wait and see. 🤞

These molds threads remind me of visiting a big liquor store (as we say in SE Michigan, a “party store”) that a had a walk in humidor. It just reeked of mold. Before going in I had chatted for a bit with the clerk about their selection, so he was surprised when I immediately walked back out. He asked me what was wrong, so I politely told him. He got pissed and told me I didn’t know what I was talking about, etc., etc. I said something along the lines of “….don’t worry, I’m sure plenty of people who actually don’t know better will still buy cigars here. But not me.” Of course, I didn’t buy any beer there either.
