You know, those blends where the smoke is so present in the mouth it’s most like you’re drinking something?

What makes a creamy mouthfeel and what blends really have it? My feeling is it is usually some form of burley/cavendish presence but that is a guess.

Two recent ones that come to mind are Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding and SG Kendal Cream.

I literally asked @alaskanpiper this same question not 24 hours ago when we were fishing.

Plum Pudding SR has it, as well, and I noticed it in Penzance, which is what raised the question.

Black Cavendish is known for this. Adds smoke volume, some creaminess, and also helps meld different types of tobacco together in a blend. Balkan Supreme is one of my favorites for that. Habana Daydream has it going on, too. SPC Plum Pudding uses it to the same effect as well. There’s lots of them.

I think you’re right about the BC. Haven’t tried Balkan Supreme or Habana Daydream. Is Balkan Supreme the Arango blend?

I think it’s a Latakia/Oriental/maybe Virginia thing. McClelland Oriental #14 and SG Commonwealth were two big ones for me.

I sometimes feel like that’s our own daily chemistry that doesn’t work. Just a theory though. The perfect blend in the perfect pipe and you try to recreate the smoke but it never reaches the same level...
Exactly what's happening to me now. I just smoked a great blend in a great pipe and it was a bit of a mediocre experience. My fault, not the tobacco or pipe to blame.

PS I need to send you those weights I keep forgetting ... I'll write a note on my hand.
