We have been trained over the last few hundred years to ignore intellectual property so much so that many do not realize, or care, that the USA's national anthem borrows its melody from a previous piece of music (of it's own time no less). It is a bit sad that so many feel the entitlement that they can take from others with no repercussions. Also, inheritance shouldn't be a thing to look down on but a thing that should be aspired to IMO.

Well, I'm obviously immune to such marketing. My favorite blend is Old Joe Krantz, and that sounds worse than Todd's Socks.

EDIT: but I will admit...if they rename OJK Tranny in a Tutu, I'm not buying any more of it...it will go the way of Bud Light (but I wouldn't have bought that piss water even before the "woke" bullshit).
I must be immune to some degree too. My favorite blend is Shepherd's Pie, (also from Country Squire), and it tastes NOTHING like lamb OR mashed potatoes. ;) Just a cute name. Could change the name to Rhubarb Pie (which I dislike), and if it was the same blend, I'd still love it.

Sorry to hear of this but I can understand it.

Whenever I smoke my Qandale pipes I smirk. Originally called the Gandalf, Savinelli had to rename the pipe Qandale. What’s a Qandale? It’s what you get when you over stamp “Gandalf” with a “Q” and an “e”.

Never knew! My first pipe was a Qandale and apparently they seem to be discontinued, which is unfortunate. I had thought about getting another one at some point.

Sorry, but what you are describing here is called "a slippery slope". While I readily confess to knowing nothing about this particular situation, I can say that knowingly allowing a copyright infraction sets a precedent that could end up poorly for the owner of the IP rights.
Fair. I'm simply suggesting there's a spectrum. That said, I'm hoping they name it back to the Middle Earth series in 2043. 😉

I just remembered that this issue with naming a blend after a LOTR blend isn't that unique.

Who remembers the SPC blend Pike Place? They had to take it off the market and stop using the name after getting sued by the owners of the Pike Place Market in Seattle.

Has anyone else said this... but... I'm impressed that the Country Squire is selling enough of these to get on anyone's radar. I had no idea that their tobacco was anything more than a small boutique novelty.
I wondered the same. As estates like this make 100% of their money from rights, I wouldn't be surprised if there are firms who search the internet looking for breaches of IP.

Maybe not 100%, as estates are in charge of large sums of money, and buy into other businesses, invest in new writers and artists, and invest heavily to keep the estate alive to support the family. But, yes... to keep the brand alive, they have to do what they have to do.

It could be that the bots found it. I’ve heard that’s being used more and more these days to find IP infractions.

There are definitely all sorts of firms and tools available depending on the use case. For example, YouTube has a really good program called Content ID which is pretty incredible for its ability to find video and audio matches of owned content on their platform.

I’m sure there’s all sorts of tools out there for any occasion.
