In 1977 my eighty year old grandmother who wrote a weekly column in The Index was diagnosed with terminal congestive heart failure and moved from Hermitage to Humansville’s Senior Housing.
The price of coffee in the middle seventies was just outrageous, higher than today, but when we moved Ma Agee she had four three pound steel cans of 100% Columbian Arabica coffee to put in her new cupboards.
My mother scolded her for spending so much on coffee and Grandma replied it gave her a reason to want to outlive her coffee so her ungrateful heirs wouldn’t drink it all up.
Grandma lived three more years and didn’t go broke buying coffee.
Not since then have I seen genuine three pound, 48 full ounce, solid steel, cans of 100% Columbian Arabica coffee for sale, at any price.
It’s as good as coffee can get.
It might not ever get any cheaper, but if it does it won’t bust you if you buy it now .

Ozark Americans are now, and always have been, fond of our coffee, and hate the thought of running out.
Don’t Forget the Coffee Billy Joe
