Movie 1950's: 25¢ for a kid's matinee, candy was 6¢
In the middle of the country, Illinois to be exact, we under 12 got in for 12 cents! But the candy cost the same.

A nickel at the grade school cafeteria for a fudgesicle!

Jay, if you never had one then no one here can describe the taste to you.

#1.. a biscuit to you is different to this side of the pond.

Bet you never put peanuts into a bottle of coke or pepsi either?

Like most over here never had fish & chips with malt vinegar in a cone of newspaper either.

Moon Pie. We used to import some (well, at least alternative of it) from Iran in the 90s right after the collapse of the USSR, it was one of the cheapest things that money can buy.

Really? Have to try this one. Do you use salted or unsalted ones?

I'm from south GA -- peanuts in Coke when I was a kid (50s), "required by law," pretty much. RC & a Moon Pie, too. It came with the territory.

Why would one put peanuts into a bottle of Coke?
I doubt it would improve the awful taste.....give me a bottle of Tizer any day.
Regards,
Jay.

Yep, salted peanuts in your RC Cola. Moon Pies are like a state treasure, here. They actually drop a giant Moon Pie at New Years and Mardis Gras in Mobile,

and people toss them from parade floats, instead of the hedonistic beads like they do in New Orleans. :puffy:
When we see tobacco going for pennies back in the day, it would be more helpful to know what the average work per hour went for. It's like when we see gas going for a nickle a gallon back in the 20's but then we realize that a nickle an hour (or even a nickle a day) was what most men could expect to get paid. So, a nickle a gallon would be the equivalent to $8-50 a gallon now a days.

Hiya, banny! Basically it's just adding a slightly salty "top note," if you will. The peanuts don't get soggy (denser than the liquid, but float because of the attachment of the carbonation bubbles). "It's a Suthun thang," as we say down home. :)
@cosmic, yeah, gimme a good MP & I'm happy. Original, though, not banana. Too much casing. -laugh-

Yea, inflation's a bitch. One day a C&D tin will be $1,000. My income will be a Million a Month. It'll equal out at some point. But the tobacco will stay the same, just tobacco.
I wouldn't pay a cent over retail for anything by McClelland without at least 5 years age on it. And at that point, I'd only pay double the retail value. I've learned that tobacco will only age so much, then it'll lose its zing, and the flavor will deteriorate, fast.

Ok, I tried it this weekend. You know what I did after the first bottle of coke? I opened the second one and filled with salted peanuts. That's one tasty thing.

Ha ha, glad you like it. Now you have to try boiled peanuts. They are like our caviar. You have to boil them in the shells, because squeezing the peanut out is a big part of the allure. But, of course we are a peanut state, with most of the world's peanuts grown here, so we like do all sorts of things with them. I make a peanut rabbit stew with lots of roasted peppers on top... good stuff.

I don't know the good old days, but when I started pipe smoking in 2015 a tin of Dunhill EMP was $6.99, it is $10.65 now.
As recently as late October 2017, I was getting tins of My Mixture 965 from P&C for $7.50 apiece.
