The smell when you open it is quite pleasant; tobacco, freshly tanned leather and fermented stone fruit. The texture between my fingers feels; well pressed, adequately moist with a rigid edge. I prefer to actually use one palm in rubbing in, other loading techniques result in an incomplete burn and lack the full flavor it can provide. Flavors! There's plenty going on but nothing to detract from it being tobacco. My personal observation is that it does taste like fire cured and fermented tobacco while smoking it. It has a nice but moderate bite when exhaling through the sinus, no burning sensation to mention. The after taste truly provides the fermentation, toastyness, cured leather with a hint of toasted hazelnut and almond, you may expect from the blend. .

Gave it a try last year when comparing cigar leafed blends. Mad Fiddler, St. Espresso and Cloud Hopper. Not something I would normally smoke since if I want cigar leaf, I'll smoke a cigar.
But the Mad Fiddler was a pleasant surprise. You are right about the fire cured vibe it gives off.
Not something that would be in my rotation, but keeping some in the cellar is nice.

I wear dentures. Dark is what I can taste best. Yes it is intense.

Mad Fiddler Flake is amazing. To me it’s a VaPer with a little more body to the flavor, and it’s not as sweet as something like Marlin Flake, which is similar minus the cigar leaf. A little higher in nicotine than average too. Made the mistake of smoking this before dinner once…never again

Mad Fiddler. Oh my word how I adore this blend. It is absolutely outstanding. I keep buying more and more tins to stack deep just because I fear C&D will discontinue it. I wish C&D would sell it in bulk.

Full bodied, rich, creamy, complex, good nicotine level. Definitely one of my all time favorites

I’m very curious about the flavor of the kasturi
I'm by no means a professional reviewer anywhere remotely close to the pedigree and accomplishment of JimInks, but here's my two cents worth on why I love this blend:

There are those occasions when you can just tell that a tobacco offering has been expertly blended by people who know what they're doing - Mad Fiddler Flake is one of them. The Kasturi is a stroke of brilliance in how it interplays with the Virginias and Perique. It brings differing intense layers of cinnamon oatmeal with brown sugar, nutmeg, apricots, and cloves the deeper you go into the bowl. The virginias add a fruity, tartness that is similar to dark cherries. The sugar intensity of the Virginias perfectly compliments what the brown sugar and cinnamon sugar that the Kasturi brings to blend. The Perique adds a harmoniously balanced portion of stewed prunes, fermented figs, and cayenne pepper which intensify you get further down in the bowl. The Cavendish and its light molasses topping softly rounds everything out to the point where they are no jagged edges on this blend. It won't bite you, no matter how hard you puff it. The smoke is full bodied and creamy. The retro hale will invigorate you and make you well aware you are smoking above average Perique.

The aromas have been described by others as exotic and I would agree. It gives off an aroma that marries a proper and mature VaPer with a spicy incense, reminiscent of a Catholic High Mass, with a teasing compliment of fruit and baking spices.

C&D did a marvelous job with this. I should shut up because I like the fact I can always buy it.

I recently cracked open a tin thay I've had sitting for a year or two just because I hadn't gotten around to trying it yet. And yeah, it's a keeper. I'll be making a point to add a tin or two to my monthly order.

Sounds intriguing. At the risk of sounding daft, is it sort of like Visions of Celephaïs, if one can mentally subtract the grape topping?

Good question. No, there is nothing artificial tasting about this blend. I never have the feeling of "it sure would be nice if _________ was not in this blend" when smoking MFF. But that is just me. That said, go over to tobacco reviews and check out the ratings to get broader feedback on this blend and most folks agree.

Cheers

Cool, into the cart it goes! puffy
