Yes, Embers, every Christmas I would spend hours looking at his photo,of him in his marine uniform, with his full bent meerschaum hanging from his mouth. My last post says "bruises", but totally meant briars.

I too only have photographs as my grandfather passed when I was very young. Wish I could have gotten to know him as an adult as those who knew him say that I remind them a lot of him.

I'm pretty sure that if something where to happen and corn cob pipes suddenly became almost impossible to obtain, they would then become the "holy grail" of the pipe world.
People would tell of its almost mythical attributes, how much better it made every tobacco.
Why your pipe would even stay lite better.
It may all just be a corn blight away, stock up while you can.

A couple of funny things, Seagull. I find that cobs do, for some reason, stay lit better. Why, I don't know. I chalk it up to the open draft. And about the corn blight, I've actually stocked up due to the drought cobs being so much smaller; I don't ever want to get stuck with those again!

A drought was actually what prevented them from doing a reverse calabash design this year, so you're not far from the truth.

If for some reason the US gets left out in the cold, to the point corn cobs are extinct, we'll help you guys out. I haven't seen a single tobacco shop in Europe that ran out of cops ... probably stayed on the store shelf for years before I picked one up. It just seems to me that they are more popular in the US than any other part of the world. Don't get me wrong, my experience with the cob since opening this post was simply amazing. Not sure if it is a placebo effect, as I was smoking and reading the thread at the same time ... but it is definitely a good smoke. At the same time, like some people said above - a good smoke for at home. Not very comfy taking it out of the house. When I smoked cob for the first time my wife couldn't control her laughing. I suppose that corn cob is rather outlandish in my neck of the woods.

I thought you cut a smaller cob (like tom sawyer) and use it as the calabash chamber. but when I pulled out my tom sawyer I realized that there would be another hole in the calabash chamber. Well, it gives me some ideas but Im not entirely sure if they are achievable. my bags of smokable seconds is on its way, and I may just sacrifice one or two to make a similar pipe.
