Corn Cob Pipe I did it!

Well finally after reading many comments ordered a corn cob to try! Any advice I will take from this group of Class acts!

You did good kid! Just remember the first 5 bowls or so will have that strange cooked corn flavor at the bottom of the bowl. That goes away and you will have a great pipe will last you through all that tobacco you got there, but you'll have another one before you finish all that.

My first pipe 'in earnest' is my OG MM Legend. I've had it 10 yrs and it's still chugging fine. I've stuck more than one new stem into it, but, the functionality of the bowl is great.
I think the next thing I did, besides buying pipes on ebay, was to get a bag of seconds from MM. I still smoke most of those too.
Success breeds success, so I have since bought other cob models. My most used is the simple Pride.
I have a Freehand, a Shire, a Spool (?), and several others...
I was in my first year when I got the bag of seconds and was smoking a fresh natural finish cob, when I began to taste, distinctly, burnt corn. I puffed and puffed and tasted and thought, and finally my finger started to burn and it was only then that I realized I tasted burnt corn for a reason. I think it was the Eaton model or one that sized anyway.

I ordered a few cobs last month and one of them had a pot leaf on the bottom, and the stem and bit are very narrow. It was called the pirate poker. I'll still use it, but I didn't think it was part of their cannabis collection.

Also scored a cool shirt...I used to live in MO, so I tend to like stuff like this....

Not sure where you moved to, but this weekend is MM's 155th celebration there in Washington, MO. Lots to do and from what I understand, a few forum members will be there too....... We've got tickets for the tour.

Nice cob!!! Cobs bring out the cherry flavors nicely I've found.

I am lucky that in the UK I can pick up a MM when I order my tobacco, very cheap that I don't notice the extra cost, 8 months in and still enjoying them, I have a huge collection of pipes but I love the smoke that MM's do, great smokers.

I have a brand new MM Legend that I haven't smoked. They got sloppy with the finishing Coat and painted half the bowl. Tried to sand it out but didn't get rid of it all. I guess it's ok.

It was your initial post on the subject of cobs, and the replies, which inspired me to add a second cob to my collection.
I have switched to carbon filtered pipes and was delighted to learn that MM country gentleman accommodates 6mm filters!
I can now enjoy cobs again. I find them perfect for aromatic blends.

One bummer though, the pipe arrived with a poorly drilled smoke hole in the shank and a big glob of stinky glue stuck in the bowl bottom. Fortunately, I was able to solve both issues with a narrow rat-tail file, and with long, needle-nose pliers. My first smoke burned off the remaining glue. Thank goodness for the charcoal filter!

FurCoat, that is an impressive extensive collection! Well Done! Is there a Hirschl & Bendheim in there somewhere? I have just one, and three MMs Legend/Rob Roy. In my experience, I find the plastic orange transparent stems give an unpleasant feel and sensation on my teeth, that I don’t experience with my Irvin S. Cobb. Nonetheless, cobs are fine, although I prefer briar. Your collection is outstanding, thanks for sharing!

This is my H&B Irvin S Cobb. Had it for 20 years. Picked it up at a brick and mortar tobacconist out on the West Rand between Roodepoort and Krugersdorp. My impression is the H&B models seem to have a better quality feel and fit & finish to them than the MMs, but that’s subjective. Also found some unique South African tobacco blends at that shop, which I will mention in a post elsewhere some other time.

All are MM and it took quite a few years to aquire that many cobs. You might want to try the Danish stem if you want a soft stem with more durability than the standard MM stems. If you're wanting a softer stem, go with their black stems.

Thank you very much FurCoat and Funkhouse. I have not heard of the Danish stems previously. Will have to look them up. The next time I am in the market for another cob, I will take your advice. But that may be awhile. Thanks again!
