Ok time for a controversial opinion... I really don't like Savinelli as a brand....
Their low grade pipes are shit and overpriced ( Rossi are great because of the lower price) bit that's not why I don't like the brand... It's the high grades that are the biggest offenders - i have seen so many 180$+ pipes with crazy amount of fills; from the over 10 straight grain stamped pipes I have restored only two had a grain that remotely resembled a straight grain... Even their highest grade Giubileo, which is a 1000$ pipe, was at best comparable to the Charatan's Belvedere grade, but with a golden ring and an atrocious stem and a non existent button...
This being said, i was blown away by the Autograph pipe i am restoring right now and especially by the amount of thought which was put into it...
We have a nice straight grain on the sides...IMG_6496.jpegIMG_6498.jpeg
...a beautifully blended sandblasted area on the front, revealing a gorgeous ring grain...IMG_6497.jpeg
... And bird's eye on the rim.IMG_6499.jpeg
And finally i love it when brands don't completely flatten the service, so you can see a relief of the ring grain peak from underneath the straight grain, just gorgeous!IMG_6500.jpeg

Really cool partial blast. I like partial rustications a lot, but I've never seen the rustication part all on the front, very nice. And growth rings peeking through on the sides to boot 🤌

Autographs are well crafted, but too large for me. I like the Giubileo d'Oro line, great shapes, modest in size, vulcanite no filter stems. I believe those stems ended in the mid-80's.

Those stems look amazing! The ones I have seen so far were all paper thin and practically without a button.. and that's wasn't from over buffing or anything like that.

Yeah ok then, it's a personal preference i guess. I always let a pipe hang and these stems were the worst for me. At same time though, at least in the examples i have seen, the pipes themselves were nothing special, especially considering the 1000$ price point
Where are you seeing $1000 Sav GBD's? They run $250 - $600 on Ebay. Modern ones are 6mm pipes (apparently they'll make a non-filter stem after ordering) and acrylic stems, that's a no-go for me.
