Something I have noticed since being on here, is that there are certain personalities that don't "get" or understand hyperbole in humor or irony. Many are the engineering types, but many are just "on spectrum" if I had to guess... which may encompass the engineers, ha ha. OK ok, enough of that speculation.

I think that is probably fair. Some people are very literal-minded and approach everything as a problem to be solved. There's nothing wrong with that, mind you; in the kind of professional fields you mentioned, that disposition is a strength. But it does mean more abstract means of communication will usually just not jive with these people. It is what it is.

In fairness to them, however, there are a LOT of people who weakly use humor as a shield and excuse for being boors. Answer and answer not.
