Woohoo! Another photo! In this one he's sanded off the black stain and added a layer of brownish stain. It looks like he covered the spalted maple with a generous amount of electrical tape or some such to protect it. Some pretty descent flame grain showing here. And I love flame grain almost as much as I love birdseye. I'm getting more and mores stoked with each photo!

Well, it's done and on it's way. And it looks like I have one heck of a pipe on the way. I couldn't be happier...

Beautiful flame grain, which I love. Beautiful birdseye, which I also love. A beautiful dark red cumberland stem, which is my first cumberland. And a beautiful piece of spalted maple making a wonderful transition from shank to stem. All of this in my first ever commissioned pipe.
Will Crawford (Anderson is his middle name) was a treat to do business with. He seems like a great guy that truly enjoys doing what he's doing, taking the time to offer suggestions and ask my opinion and bring things to attention I might not have thought about... like stem measurements and such. He was more than willing to provide all these photos, and sometimes just chat it up about pipes and tobaccos. Instead of pacing back and forth and stressing about what might be going on with my pipe, his updates and photos kept me at ease. And he made the whole process quite fun. I would keep an eye on his name, because I think he's one that will go far.
Now the hard part is waiting for this beauty of a pipe to arrive in the mail.

That is a stunning piece of art. Will this be just a display piece?

Heck no lol. In my opinion if it's got a tobacco chamber and an airway from stem to that tobacco chamber, it's meant to be loaded up with some tobacco and smoked. It will however be a pipe I enjoy at home while relaxing and will be well cared for.

Outstanding! Pretty much my philosophy too; why build it if you're not going to use it.
Happy puffing! :puffpipe:
