Andy, great to see you back. By coincidence, I'm have a commissioned pipe done as well, by a master, Stephen Downey, who created the Vampire's Wand for me about 2 years ago. This pipe will be a sister pipe to the first one, only about an inch larger in proportion. I caon't wait to see it and hope Stephen will show photos of it as it progresses.

Andy, that Crawford pipe is so beautiful I'd be afraid to smoke it. My own forthcoming Stephen Downey creation while be awhile before it's finished, but you can be sure I'll show it here. With pipe makers like Crawford and Downey around, who needs a Dunhill?

Well the pipe arrived today and it's an absolute beauty. Every bit as beautiful as the photos, if not more so. I had a long day today and work early in the morning so it looks like I won't get to smoke it until tomorrow, but I did test the hand feel, which is great. The stem is quite comfortable and the pipe has a nice open draw. Everything appears nice and flush and the drilling appears spot on. I'm very pleased and I'm anticipating it to be a great smoker as well. I'll definitely let you all know how it performs as soon as I get the chance.

So I finally got the chance to smoke it tonight, and it was a nice smoke right out of the bag. I did have a few relights, but not too many, but I was smoking very slow as the bowl was left natural with no precarb. I imagine after a few bowls, it's really going to sing. Maiden smoke was McClelland Blue Mountain (Now called Balkan Blue) as the carver and I agreed was only fitting. Blue Mountain is a favorite of mine, and the pipe was carved in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I intend to give it a few days rest and then I'll smoke it again perhaps on the weekend. Happy smokes everyone.

Anthony as you know after seeing your beautiful pipe I contacted William Anderson and had him make me his interpretation of the author shape. This too is my first commission and also my first pipe with a cumberland stem.
Here is the end result:

That is truly a magnificent pipe. The staining and the resultant coloration is breathtaking. i'm looking forward to watching Will's career bloom.

Allan, I do not have the weight. But a quick measurement has it just shy of 5 1/2 inches in length, approximately 2 inches tall. Bowl at it's widest point is about 1 3/4 inches. The chamber is roughly 3/4 inch. I wish I had a scale to weigh it. It is quite light. Most definitely lighter than it looks.
Fitzy, your author is beautiful. Congrats! Let us know how it smokes. Mine is smoking everything I throw in it wonderfully. I intend to make this my Balkan Blue/Blue Mountain (whether you prefer the old or new name) pipe, but curiosity had had me trying other tobaccos in it. I haven't tried flakes yet, but it smoked cubes beautifully.
Ok... now maybe you can all help me make my next decision. I was going to have Will make me a second pipe. A sister pipe, if you will to this one. Since I love everything about it, I'm going for the same shape. But I have two ideas. Idea one is to have another pipe like this one but with the colors reversed... a more natural stain but darker shank extension. I'm thinking rosewood. And then a honey cumberland stem. The second choice is to have an identical pipe to the first one, however as a churchwarden.
Help me make up my mind :)

Great post. Searched for this pipemaker online and this was the second post to come up. I'm currently having a pipe commissioned by someone else but was doing some prelimary brainstorming for my next one. I saw Will Anderson's name in another forum and wanted to google some of his work.
Love the grain.

This was a worthwhile necro, what beautiful pipes. I doubt I'll be able to afford a commission any time soon but I'll remember the name.
