Pipe smoking is the most accessory oriented smoking there is
Other than the pipe itself or pipe cleaners, I use nothing more than I would for cigarettes. Less than cigarettes actually as I don't need an ashtray for smoking a pipe. Either dump the ashes outside or directly into a waste basket when finished.

Aside from baseball caps on occasion, I'm not a hat guy. I think it comes down to that. Some people are hat people and look good rocking a fedora or a Panama or whatever. I had a boss that always looked cool as hell in hats. I thought I might look cool too so I bought a Panama and a smaller, dressier hat. I looked totally bogus ?
Maybe you just need to try some other styles. I look ridiculous in a cowboy hat, but get compliments on pork pie hats and flat caps.

I was only thinking about the pipe. That’s more than cigarettes. A tool to smoke tobacco in is required.

Australian Akubra Brand and The U.S Stetson, Resistol and Bailey are my very favorite hat manufacturers, no doubt, prices for well made hats regardless of country of production are on the constant rise, hat makes a man s they used to say back in the days,,

Just to walk out to front porch for smoke I carry MP3 player, ear buds, pipe cleaners in sleeve, paper towel, Diet Pepsi, pipe with tobacco, Zippo and a pipe nail. Of course, a hat. Thankfully, most of them fit in one hand. Rest of 'em in shorts pocket somewhere.

I’m a baseball/trucker hat guy. I never, ever leave the house without one. I’ve put my hat on before my shirt on several occasions. I tend to wear one until it’s so gross it changes color. Then I grab another from the collection. Outdoor work + fishing all the time, hats are indispensable.

As far as packing the GLP/C&D “flakes,” I like to gather some pieces, a bundle slightly narrower and shorter than the pipe chamber, and orient them vertically in my fingers. Then, I just push a bit on the bundle with my other hand, loosening the flake bits up a little on one end. Then I just drop the bundle into the pipe, keeping all the flakey parts aligned vertically, and the loosened parts on top of the bowl. Slightly tamp with a thumb and light up. This way, you’ve got some nice loose stuff to take the light, and with the flakey bits sitting straight up and down they tend to burn easier and don’t clog the draft much. Hope that makes sense.

When improved my packing method allowed a decent smoke, but I never really found a good technique understood then used.

Despite the prohibition above calling for no fedoras, a year ago April I spent some money on a grey fedora, which it has been fun to wear, though, because of my height, I spend more time putting it on and taking it off than wearing it, as I enter and leave my car. While under the hat spell I saw what I found to be a way cool $900.00 hat that though I wanted it, I never came close to buying.

In the midst of that craze I had contact with a salesperson who, though he pitched, backed off and respected the ordinary person's financial limitations.

So it's not all greed

Heh, I used to buy a new fitted San Francisco Giants baseball cap just about every year when the old one got too gross from sweat and dirt. Not because of hard work or anything, I just used to sweat a lot.

I have not encountered a similar problem with Windjammer. I just grab a pinch right out of the can, fold it in half, and stick it in the bowl. I usually use the 1/3 method for packing, so I don't press the first pinch, I just let it settle to the bottom. I do the same folding with the following pinches, and pack a little more firmly each time.
