There is only one way to remove oxidation and that is to physically remove it. If oxidized vulcanite is present it will continue to invade the surrounding vulcanite. As far as I know, there is no way to remove oxidized vulcanite without physically removing it. Coating it will not stop the reaction, maybe slow it down, but not stop it. That's why I sand off the affected layers.

Cumberland and vulcanite are the same material, why apply mineral oil to plastic, perspex, and bone?
The real question is, why would you assume that was done? Of course it was not.
8th, 10th, 11th pipes down, all showing oxidation.

8 and 10 I pointed out they had issues with oxidation, probably under the softie bit. 11 is fine, just a bit of glare from highlights.
I'm stating that a little bit of mineral oil isn't going to get rid of the oxidation if that's what you're trying to imply from that photo, as the oxidation is still quite visible.
See above for the oxidation clarification. And I am not implying that mineral oil alone is the proper treatment for serious oxidation.
Folks can compare the two photos and make their own conclusions, and determine what's lousy and what's static.

A tiny bit of mineral oil will shine them right up.

That's only masking the oxidation.

Really! It makes the pipe look great, and lasts for weeks, perhaps months. And it removes no material.
Folks, if you haven't tried it, please do so and report back.
Well this makes it sound to me like your implying the oxidation doesn't need to be removed. And you want so badly for others to do it your way. Just saying.

Ummm, because you made this post with this image.
After mineral oil on rim and stem:

I was actually curious about the benefits on those materials.

I thought maybe a musical interlude would be a nice break and help everyone relax and get their minds off the issue at hand for a bit.
Water dissolving and water removing

There is water at the bottom of the ocean

Under the water, carry the water

Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean
Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, into the silent water

Under the rocks and stones, there is water underground

How do I work this?

And you may ask yourself

Where is that large automobile?

And you may tell yourself

This is not my beautiful house!

And you may tell yourself

This is not my beautiful wife!

Need a break! Or find another track....

We'll take that ride to nowhere, we'll take that ride

I never could stand The Talking Heads.
That being said, it's 4:00 AM, I'm about to head to work, and this always wakes me up quite well.
And I'm a Texas boy so.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i97OkCXwotE

The desire to hear that at 4am could mean water on the brain...or cause it.
But that's ok...as long as you don't get any on your pipes.

Luckily for us, any thread that could shed any light on this is now closed and buried. Yay for the new boss...

I remember starting a thread about Doodler pipes that caused myths to abound and sadly, they were believed.

Who cares about the traditional ways when we can just run our pipes through the dishwasher. Next we will hear that the mythical "Chinese" way of treating your pipe with garlic will do better than a rum-coated pipe cleaner.

Yep. The last thing anyone except a total crackpot would want to do is expose briar to heated water and water vapor, like what always happens when one smokes. No more smoking your pipes or you will destroy them.
