Apparently theres a place to get Skyline Chili in the great Cleveland. I was not informed of this until recently, and I plan on rectifying that because I'm a huge fan of the Chili!

Cinci chili is nasty.

Graeter's ice cream is the best on the planet

La Rosa's is mediocre at best. Crust is lame, sauce is meh.
The real gem is Izzy's corned beef sandwiches and potato pancakes!

A five way and then a stroll to Graeter's for their unsurpassable Chocolate Chip.
Of course, we make Cinti chili at home, and it's easily equal to what I would get at Skyline, but the ambience is not quite the same.

Hi Hobie1dog,
To tell the truth, I've seen (and tried) dozens of recipes for Cinti chili, and they're all failures. Some of them recommend sauteeing the meat (FYI Cinti chili is always simmered in water, never fried or sauteed,) others have all sorts of bizarre ingredients that may taste good to some people, although never to anyone who has ever lived there. I've even phoned some of these people, only to be told: "Well, our customers like it." Sure, both of them. I visualize a middle finger extended in mid air, thank them for their help, and move on.

Now here's the thing: one day, needing a chili fix real bad, I surfed the Internet over to skyline. They will ship you canned and frozen product which you can microwave. They'll even sell you their shredded cheese and spaghetti. Wasn't interested. That led me down a few pathways until I found I could order packets of the mix. Go to amazon.com, type in Cincinnati Chili and it will come right up. The brand is called Skytime, the packaging looks like Skyline, and it's real. Just follow the directions, buy some spaghetti and shredded light cheddar, shop up some onions, open a can of dark pinto beans, and enjoy. Is buying a packet cheating? OK, but when you want chili in three hours, it's the way to go. When my son comes home and sniffs the air, a smile breaks out on his face. And a good time is had by all.

Enjoy!

Inverted four-way and three cheese coneys please!
I lived off of Ludlow in the late 70s when attending UC. Skyline was always my favorite of any of the many places. If you are not going to put the mustard on my coney with a stick, you can keep it. That particular Skyline was my favorite. In the wintertime the windows would be opaque with condensation. Just walking into the place -- that smell -- was invigorating.
(And Graeter's -- that's a whole other conversation. Chocolate "chip" ice cream with chocolate pieces the size of broken Hershey bars,)
Amazingly, there is a Skyline in Fort Lauderdale not terribly far from where I live. Well about 50 miles from my house in southern Miami Dade county. (I think one of the cousins moved down here years ago.) Smells and tastes just as it should -- and the hot sauce still cleans a tarnished penny bright and new.
If chocolate and cinnamon sound odd to you, you just have to trust us -- it's amazing. And forget making it at home -- it just doesn't come out right.

I'm from Ohio, I live 50 miles NE of Cinci and have one of the original recipes for Cinci chilli. Its a staple. A little goes a long way. Spaghetti noodles and oyster crackers are cheap and filling. The chilli itself is just a spice. and of course Tobasco. I do mine 5 way, I'm a hog :D

I was never a big fan of Skyline chili.I like my chili thick and with a peanut butter sandwich lol.I guess I am old fashioned that way.I have found though being in Ohio that when it comes to Skyline chili people either love it or hate it.

Is that similar to the 5-Way Chili they have at Steak-n-Shake? I saw you mentioned noodles and oyster crackers. I make a Texas Style Chili, I call 666 Chili. It tastes good if you can handle being on fire. In addition to making my own chili powder with 90,000 hu Cayenne Pepper, I add 6 jalapeños, 6 Habaneros and 6 Thai or Arbol or whatever I can get like that. No beans, 3 types of meat- Venison, Beef and Pork and then some stuff I can't tell you and it's delicious and creamy but you better not make any plans for the next day.

when you go for Cincy Chili at Skyline you are going for 'Cincy Chili'. When I want 'Chili' I make my own, start early and let it simmer all day (made with ground beef and ground pork). I can stand a spoon up in it when it's ready to eat. When I want 'Texas Chili' I get a nice big sirloin steak, cube it up nice and never add beans. When I think 'I want a bowl of chili' Skyline never crosses my mine. when I think I want some Skyline nothing else will do.

My uncle makes chili from my grandmother's recipe and it is the hottest thing I have ever eaten. He will not give the recipe out as it was a secret of hers.I think she just liked to make it so people would come to eat it and boy did we.He has people lining up to get it when he makes it.I think yours sounds pretty similar Baron.
