Hello folks, my first post here. I want to give pipe smoking a try; however, I don’t know where to start on tobacco brands, types, etc. I love full-bodied cigars and looking for a recommendation for pipe tobacco that fits into that category. To give the cigar/pipe smokers an idea of what I am looking for in pipe tobacco, I usually smoke Oliva Serie V, Punch Diablo, CAO Brazilia. I appreciate any help in my search. Based on my research in this forum, I will get a MM Cobb to start as my first pipe.
Pipe smoking is a different experience. I find cigars to be all about the same flavor (more paper-y on the cheap end). I have several hundred in my humidor and they don't get much attention and have mellowed on the cedar shelves. Meh. Espresso and cedarwood are primary up-front flavors.. and tobacco leaf.. and that's it. La Arora Treasurebox is pretty good for cigars, I have some Carlos Toranno 90th, Ashtons, etc. Yawn. Cubans are over-rated and taste like hay. Cohiba.. Romeo y Julietta, Montecristo.. sure.

Pipe smoking is a rich experience and far more satisfying (and less expensive somehow). Try some Sutliff Private Reserve tins such as Molto Dulce or think about a flavor you might like and go for that. For cherry, I recommend Boswell Pipes & Tobacco's Cherry Smash or for vanilla perhaps Sutliff D-40 Vanilla. Something exotic and with depth, try Balkan by Sasieni.

Each tin is a treat. Aromatics or British smokes are amazing and have infinite depth. Learn to pack (3-stage process) and light (3 stage process of light/tamp) and you'll enter a world of amazing depth and sophistication.
