I've added both Habana Daydream and the Synjeco ropes to my list of tobaccos to try. To bad the Swiss (Synjeco) are outside the EU and therefore, for us Swedes, subject to the same draconian taxes and fees as purchases from the US.
Have you tried ordering from 4Noggins? I haven’t (as of yet) had to pay any additional taxes on shipments. Just the import fee of like 100kr. I’m keeping it under 16oz. A Smoking Pipes order got stuck faster than you could say ”Quiet Nights”.

Have you tried Planta Full English? I rarely hear it mentioned in discussions about cigar leaf blends, but the Java leaf really stands out in a unique, sweet & tangy way. The Latakia doesn't hide in it, but imho the Java is equally forward in the mix.

No I haven't, but I've heard good about them and they have some nice bulks. I will place an order with them and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Sounds good, it is added to my list. Thank you!

Also realized that there is cigar leaf and Latakia in C&D Purple Cow which I have an unopened tin of in my cellar, so that's what i will be smoking this weekendpuffy.

Warped King's Stride is a blend worth checking out if you're looking for a strongish cigar leaf blend.

There's no way in hell it matches an actual Cuban cigar, but so far as pipe tobacco blends with cigar leaf goes it's quite flavorful. Might be too heavy for some smokers. Warped Until The End is a companion blend that has similar flavors but adds Cavendish to moderate and smooth things out a little more. Both are worth trying.

On the down side, it's a C&D limited release on Smoking PIpes... which means it's a buy it now or lose out proposition--exactly the kind of buying situation I dislike because you feel forced to stock up on a blend you haven't been able to properly test. In any event, it's out there and they're both pretty tasty in my opinion.

"Joining Warped's selection of pipe tobaccos, Gellis and Reeves present Warped's Kings Stride as a regular production mixture."

Fortunately not. I dislike these "limited releases" too.

Good to know. I saw that everything was out of stock on Smoking Pipes and assumed it had been a limited run.
I'm going to need to beg around for samples of these Warped blends. Despite all the recommendations I'm a little wary of buying an entire Cornell & Diehl tin of anything unless I've tried it first.

You're too scared to buy even a single tin? Wow. If I had to wait to beg a sample off someone before I committed to trying a tin my tobacco selection would be reduced to nearly zero. The Warped blends are sold out in any case but what scared you off C&D?

From what I can gather reading the various posts on forums and tobacco reviews, it's a fairly commonplace phenomenon. People either love Cornell & Diehl, or they struggle to find the few "diamonds in the rough" in their portfolio. I wasn't always scared to buy a single tin, but that was many many tins ago.

{edit} For example (a great example) for me, referring back to the title of this thread, if I had to choose between a Cornell & Diehl cigar blend, and an HU cigar blend, for me the safe bet would be HU. The riskier proposition would be the Cornell & Diehl, which to my tastes would almost certainly be green and harsh.

The riskier proposition is to miss out on smoking a great blend because you won't spring for a tin to try. I'm not sure how $10 to $12 for a tin of tobacco presents a risky proposition. If it does, then you probably have no business smoking anyway.

I consider it a 'probability spread' based on my past experiences with the company. To the contrary, buying every new and limited release from them .... "fool me once, fool me twice ...." I'd have lost count really.

Some of my favorite blends are the Carolina Red Flake, XX Flake, Sansepolcro Sun Bear to name a few. I didn't think we were discussing limited release here. By the time you got a sample of many of those, they would already be gone. It's your money, do as you please. OTOH, I'm very happy I've got 40 to 50 tins each of the blends I mentioned.

Sorry, I don't have an answer on comparable blend for EU.

In case it helps. I smoked several blends seeking a cigar note. I wound up ordering 8oz C&D Cigar Leaf, after sampling a few even though I did like most of them, including Billy Budd. I smoke the CD Leaf straight most typically when I have the itch...sometimes I do still go for a cigar plenty too, but it's sure nice to have around to add to anything at times too. Billy Budd and others left me seeking a stronger cigar note. C&D Cigar Leaf probably would have the same shipping problem you mentioned if there is no EU seller for that either, and as others mentioned they didn't believe it was cuban leaf. C&D is Pennsylvania Maduro Leaf from what I have read. Maybe try looking for anyone EU selling "blending Maduro leaf?"

Incidentally, the 8oz I bought was BONE dry, and I rehydrated before jarring. I was thankful to get a huge bag since it was so dry. Luckily it was not powdered in shipping, but it was that dry.

HU Nyala is one of my favourite blends!.....there is NO Lat in it! I'm a Burley guy who loves Perique, Kentucky and Cigars......I have to be in the mood for Latakia....and the Virginia has to be waaaay in background usually.

I haven't tried Billy Bud but would like to try the "Blonde" version if 4 Noggins ever gets it in stock.

I have some Key Largo which is very good and improves with age........a little like GH Bobs Choc Flake.....but NOTHING like Nyala......

Nyala has a quite a few reviews on TR....most are quite accurate....Jim Inks sums it up though!
