I grew up with an artificial tree and have kept the tradition for the most part. For a few years we had a real tree because the kids, when they were young, enjoyed going out to a tree farm to cut one down and take a hay ride to the fields. Now the kids are grown and have moved away. The wife and I have bad arthritis and are no longer able to put up a tree, but we do enjoy riding around and looking at the Christmas decorations.

Jason, you did the right thing, I'll be thinking about you this holiday.
Great shot Lawdog. There's nothing like getting out on a farm to cut down a tree. We've cut down a real tree for 38 years. Did that with two babies, that turned into women, and two great dogs that left us. But last year, it went up in early December, then down before Christmas when we went down to New Orleans to be with the daughter and her family (granddaughter, the love of my life!)
So, this year, we decided to go artificial. They do look good now, and we don't have to worry while we're out of town again. The granddaughter was home for Thanksgiving, so she helped decorate.

But when she got down to New Orleans and the swamp (probably somewhere near Bradley!), she decided to get her own real tree, Little Tykes style.

This shot was of our last Westie. Ellie went down hill fast after this picture, but always enjoyed going along for a tree.

Grandkids are the greatest. We have a four year old grandson and one on the way. There's a special love for grandkids and it's hard to explain to people who don't have any. But when they do, they know that feeling too.
Al, your granddaughter is adorable.

I had always assumed that the special love stems from the fact that you can send the little shits home to their parents when they start annoying you.

peck: That is a positive, of course. But, there is so much more. Luckily my 4 year old grandson is minutes away and this summer he's gonna learn to sit on a dock, hook in the water, watching the birds and such. Most especially he's gonna get exposed to granddad's peculiar philosophies of life.
And, for granddad, there is nothing better than getting down on the floor, to their level, and learning again what the world looks like when all you see are knees and chair legs.

The wife and myself every year do a ride before Christmas with the dog in my lap to look at decorations. It's something we have been doing for years...
