But how do you manage to chew that stuff?
When I smoke pipe, if a piece of tobacco goes into my mouth, I almost feel like vomiting.
As of late I compress it and dip it, meaning I don’t really chew it. Kind of squeeze it to get a little juice out of it or just touch it with my tongue. I’m still playing around with all this so there is your “new guy” disclaimer.

I really like to put in a bit of Redburn. I have had a long love affair with Cope. No other taste like it to me. But I tend to chew a bit more than my appetite for what is charged for a tin. RYO was the same: nothing by PS Amsterdam shag. In a pipe never seems the same. Honestly Newminster slices has the flavor I crave more than the PS Amsterdam ribbon or shag in a pipe. So is there a Copenhagen pipe tobacco comp?
After reading this I had to try Redburn. Really tasty, I just compressed it and put it in my lower jaw.

I have no help for you on the Cope/pipe tobacco comparison. I’m thinking it’s got to have some Dark Fired in it.

True on the dark fired: I love a bit of dark fired in a blend. Burley flake #3, ODF, Kendall Kentucky. Mmmm. And I would agree: some pipe tobacco is not mouth worthy. Casing or topping perhaps?

So, I decided to pop a slice of Gawtih Whiskey Twist in my lip and it tastes fantastic. I haven't chewed tobacco in fifteen years, and I've never had a flavor like this. My memories of oral tobacco is that was all so sweet, whether it was Cope, or Skoal, or Redman, or anything else. This one tastes like tobacco with just a little bit of whiskey flavor that has faded since I've had it in my mouth.

Are ya'll actually chewing these ropes, or are you just dipping them in your lip? How long are you leaving it in there?

Probably the easiest way is to start with the Swedish snus 'portions' I think they are called in the little teabag?

Or you can just learn how many of us did when your young and still wet behind the ears, the guys at work have either a bag of Redman or can of Copenhagen and offer you some. You of course want to prove yourself so you can't possibly say no. So you grab a bit too much and pretend that you like it and then go toss your cookies somewhere quietly 20 min later when no one is looking. It does get better after that though, I promise.

For the Gawith ropes, I just cut a thin coin or two and then tuck them into my upper lip and let them just sit there. I find the flavor takes awhile to come and then I only occasionally give it a little bite to stimulate it. They last a long time. The longest of any tobacco I've chewed.

Someone mentioned Orlik Golden Slice, I'm going to have to give that a try!

thanks for the info. It makes me wonder if any flake tobacco could be chewed/dipped

I was chewing bacon and eggs this morning and got some great flavor out of them. I didn't spit and even swallowed them when I was done chewing.
