That's the first thing that comes to mind whenever I read stuff like: "...that Dunhill blend was way, way better back 40 years ago than that ersatz Peterson stuff they sell today."

My thoughts exactly! What amazes me is that tobacco companies can produce tobaccos as constantly as they do year after year. Considering they have to deal with an ever changing growing plant and weather, soil and the like. My appreciation to G&H for what they do and spending any time they can to answer questions they can on this forum. Thank you!Whenever one of these threads come upView attachment 350379
I wish I could go back in time when Bob Gregory was still working in pipe tobacco production...Doesn't sound like it. Corresponds too coincidentally with complaints of product changes around 2018-2019.

I like that they keep it analog, more or lessMore likely they've considered the "chase a modern audience" approach and rejected it, the same way they rejected modern methods of making tobacco blends.
Historically only about 5% of people who take up pipe smoking are still doing it after two years. Trying to appeal to the new-trend-every-minute crowd would only make that situation worse/more complicated.
I am not sure you are wrong. I also don’t think you were off topic - at least no farther from the OP than many others, myself included. I do hope you are wrong about what it takes for a small tobacco company to have a future. When I brought up Social Media to @gawithhoggarth I was speaking in a professional capacity with my background in IT. I wasn’t giving my personal opinions on the matter, but actual business facts.
Most people still perceive Social Media as some kid thing to do, hang out, chat, post goofy pics, and then those that worry about their online identity.
Size too, big or small has nothing to do with Online Marketing, when it comes to business.
While there are certainly mass amounts of youth around the world using the likes of Facebook, Instagram, X, etc., and they’ve all fallen under bad press, the majority of the world still sees most of Social Media from one side, and the wrong way.
Social Media is not just some childish kiddie aspect of posting non sense.
Social Media in this day and age for a business, based on their business model, who are looking for new prospects/customers, building a bigger client base and maintaining that client base, Social Media for them is simply a Marketing Tool.
When I brought up the Social aspects in regards to marketing a business, no one is suggesting people need to expose themselves online to achieve Business Sociability. You have to just be a little creative, and take pics that don’t actually need to show a face, but side views as an example, or people slightly blurred in the backgrounds, so no one needs to worry about identity, again, you just need a little thought and creativity here. Also being Social online with these marketing tools, doesn’t even mean you need to show people, but simply aspects and moments in time with a business going about it’s day…
I get it, we all like to have fun around here, and I definitely do, look at my posts and you will see lots of memes I post here.
But there is a time and a place, and this time I am being serious, sharing in a professional capacity, simply out of respect to Gawith. I am grateful for what they do, as well as, taking the time to come here and sit among us.
Ok I’ve said enough, and enough off topic here that I shouldn’t of.
Let’s all try to keep it respectful for Gawith, thanks…
That would be entirely plausible had those of us that reported changes in 2019 not had 2018 and prior samples to compare to. Even my jars of 2015 Ennerdale still have a stronger topping than recent releases. At one time, a defining characteristic of Lakelands were little to no tobacco taste. The modern ones would likely not even threaten to ghost a pipe.Whenever one of these threads come upView attachment 350379

I've commented several times that I'm not convinced. We really have no idea who it is claiming company representation.Either something has changed with Rachel, or this isn't Rachel.
The voice is different than it was. The gawithhoggarth posts in this thread are sane. And helpful. Make me want to buy more.I've commented several times that I'm not convinced. We really have no idea who it is claiming company representation.
BUT YOU CHANGED THE ENNERDALE AND CONTINUE TO LIE ABOUT IT.The replies are the same as I have always given. Just stating the facts.
Maybe it depends what questions you ask or comments you make and whether you opt to accept those facts or argue against them constantly. And now I just choose to mostly ignore those that make the same comments and argue the same things over and over. Not worth my time nor effort.
You may be still adding the same percentage of flavoring or "sauce" to a tobacco as you always have but has the strength or "potency" of the sauces themselves changed or been reduced in recent years? The replies are the same as I have always given. Just stating the facts.
