I like Castellos and their sea rock finish is a favorite. Nice looking pipe, enjoy it.
While i like searocks, i have found that the Radice Rind especially in the (E) series (ebonite stems) are just as nice as the searocks for considerably less money. Castello makes a beautiful pipe but their stem work is often too thick. Radice stems are much more tapered.
Sea Rocks kick ass!! Nice looking and the exact finish is unique. A recent thread noted that Costello makes larger draft holes that allow a good smoke and most preferred this open design, I wonder if the thicker stem is a result?
I am travelling to Italy at the end of the month, I plan on buying a Castello while there. Your pictures are getting me excited in a good way.... I should rephrase that, but it is kinda true.
It does seem to have a larger draft hole and that may be the reason for a meatier stem/bit. All I know is I like the look, feel and smoke of this thing big time. I'm envious of the Italy trip. A nice Castello sounds like the perfect souvenir!Sea Rocks kick ass!! Nice looking and the exact finish is unique. When in Rome try Novelli. It's near the Trevi Fountain and is a good source for Castellos. p.s. Bring lots of dollars, you'll need them.Sea Rocks kick ass!! I am staying right around the corner from Novelli. It may be my first stop. Thanks for the recommendationWhen in Rome try Novelli. It's near the Trevi Fountain and is a good source for Castellos. p.s. Bring lots of dollars, you'll need them.
I bought a Stroboli at a pipe show years ago. It did look like a Sea Rock and had a wonderful finish... plus it was a cool shape (Poker) and was cheap. I didn't expect much when I lit it up for the first time, but I have to admit it smoked real nice. I'm not crazy about their fancy stems, but I would recommend them in the modest price range.I've been collecting the Jobey Stromboli pipes and just love that style of coarse rustication. I'm pretty sure that I'll be getting a Castello Sea Rock or two in the near future.
That's a great looking pipe I just bought a 55 as well but a KK, does it smoke dry? Or do you have any problems with gargle? I keep hearing mixed reviews on the shapeI just picked up a Sea Rock 55 (4K). I really like the rustication and this particular finish (see pic). I also like the bit size and the weight (lighter than it seems like it should be). And it smokes wonderfully.
Says this is a shape 32. Other than the 55 I'm not to familiar with the castello shape chart
Smokes great for me and no gargle of note. That's a great looking pipe I just bought a 55 as well but a KK, does it smoke dry? Or do you have any problems with gargle? I keep hearing mixed reviews on the shape
